Tutorial: Save the backups to an external hard drive (Mac)

NewImage

As I have explained in the previous post, iOS backups are not exactly light and can take up a few gigs if several are put together, so a more than interesting trick is to move the copies to an external hard drive.

To do this we must follow two simple steps, and of course, have the external hard drive plugged in.

  1. Copy the folder "~ / Library / Application Support / MobileSync" to the external hard drive. This is where the copies are kept.
  2. Open Terminal and create a symbolic link by typing this: ln -s / Volumes / / MobileSync ~ / Library / Application Support / MobileSync

In principle it would be done, but we are going to make two considerations to avoid misunderstandings, which then happens what happens.

The first is that in « »You have to logically put the name of your hard drive, but without the« <> »as is logical too. The second is that if you want to put the folder in another path on the external disk, you have to change it in the command as well.

The backup is in that folder. But if you want to keep music, applications, movies and others on your computer, copy the entire folder.

In other words, I copy the entire folder and nothing would be saved on the computer disk if not on the external disk, simply copying what appears in step two in the terminal app.

I did what it says above copy the folder and then put the code in the terminal app, I create a mobilesync alias folder but I create it within the original mobilesync, that is, now when I open the mobilesync folder, the mobilesyncalias and the folder appear backup and it keeps saving the iOS backups on the internal disk of my imac. How should I do to save the copies on the external hard drive ?. Thanks in advance.
