Tutorial: how to fix iBooks on iOS 5 + Jailbreak

When a new firmware and a non-permanent jailbreak appear, like the one we have right now, the iBooks application usually does not work, The reason is that Apple has implemented a security improvement, when loading the book data, iBooks tries to execute a small binary code signed with wrong DRM, if the read response is correct, iBooks will detect that the device is running iBooks under Jailbreak and when loading the book "correctly", it will give us an error and close the application.

It is a temporary solution, but at least you can read the biography of Steve Jobs, we know you are looking forward to it.

You will not be able to sync your books through iTunes, but you will have to put them by hand. It's probably more convenient to download another book-reading app like Kindle.

You need to iFile or access the files on your iPhone via SSH.

TUTORIAL:

1.- Uninstall and reinstall iBooks from the App Store.

2.- Open iFile, go to the path:

/ var / mobile / Applications / xxxxxxxxxxxxx /

(where xxxxxxxxxxx will be a bunch of numbers and letters, go into the folders until you find one with a folder called iBooks.app)

3.- Copy «iBooks.app»To the route:

/ Applications.

4.- Go to the file Info.plist in the route:

/Applications/iBooks.app/Info.plist

and select "property list editor".

5.- Select CFBundleIdentifier

6.- Change the name «com.apple.iBooks »to« com.apple.iBooksFix»

7.- Exit iFile and do a respring.

8.- Once on the desktop you will have two iBooks applications, one with the square icon and the other with the rounded corners, delete the original one with the rounded corners.

9.- Now you have to upload the books by hand to the route:

/ var / mobile / Documents

(you can do it by SSH or using iPhone Explorer)

You can actually put the books wherever you want, so you can upload them to your dropbox account for example.

Open the book from iFile, Dropbox or whatever and it will open directly in iBooks.

Hello and thank you, but the lack of deibooksparami iPad with jailbreak forced me to look for alternatives and for me, of all the apps that I tried I stay with BLUEFIRE, to put the books it can be done from iTunes and it is very easy to use, I hope you serve as an alternative to ibooks

Well, I have followed the manual. and something does not work, I did not get the square icon. I have no books.
I'll try the bluefire that from the previous post.

I self-answer. On an Ipad 1 it doesn't work either.

      I look silly.
the path to copy is not / var / mobile / Applications
      it's just / applications

      Yes that kicks, yes.

It didn't work for me either according to the tutorial, but there is a much simpler way,
    - uninstall iBooks if it is installed, if you followed this tutorial «delete» the iBooks folder from the applications path
    - respring and install iBooks from the App Store
    - In cydia load the insanelyi repo and install iBooksFix2
    - Respring and voila.
It remains with the original icon and ebooks can be synchronized with iTunes without problems.

    Cheers-

      this is the good
I managed to clean all the mess created with another solution, search inside the ipad for everything that had the ibooks name, erase it and follow your steps and recover everything
      THANK YOU

In iFile, at the bottom left there is a settings icon that is like a wheel with gears. We enter and where it puts the name of applications we mark it and we give ok at the top right. We will no longer have to enter all the folders one by one since we will get the name of the app.

Hello, it does not work for me in either of the two ways, with the first one if I get the two icons but neither of them works, and with the ibookfix2 I get the original icon but it does not work either, I don't know what to do !! !! I have done it to the letter and I have left it clean every time I have tried it and nothing, there is no way.

nooo !!!! It is much easier to search, it is faster, easier and more comfortable, that within (var / mobile / applications) you give iFile settings, and enable the feature of (Name of applications) 🙂

Hello, I bring you the solution for those who do not work with ibooks in ios 5.0.1 with jailbreak untethered.
The first thing is to restore the idevice to 5.0.1 to erase everything from ibooks so that everything is clean, after having restored download the redsnow 9.10b3 and do the normal jailbreak, then enter cydia wait for it to update everything and add the following repo .
repo.insanelyi.com, when I finish adding the repo, leave cydia and enter the app store and download ibooks when it finishes installing ibooks DO NOT OPEN IT !!!! This step is very important. then they go to cydia and look for ibooksfix2 from the insanelyi repo and install it, do the respring and RESTART THE IDEVICE, and you will have ibooks working perfectly.
I tried all the solutions that they gave on the internet and none of them worked until I tried this one that I discovered, I hope it works like me.
    REGARDS!!!!

I have an iPhone 4 with 5.0.1 untethered. I have done it in the two ways that you comment and nothing, as soon as I enter the app it closes automatically
