TUTORIAL:
Restore your iPhone from iTunes with iOS 5.1.1
If it doesn't let you restore Open TinyUmbrella and uncheck the option "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit"
Open Redsn0w
if you use Windows run it as administrator and in compatibility mode with Windows XP SP2
press jailbreak:
Note: if you have an A4 device you can jailbreak in two ways, which we tell you about or by putting your device in DFU, use the second if you have a lot of information (music, videos, photos) stored on your iPhone.

The iOS 5.1.1 eats my battery. I made a custom firmware with snowbreeze to maintain the baseband and restored a bakcup on the iphone. As it consumed a lot of battery I started again, this time with Redsnow, restoring as a new iPhone but I still have the same battery problem. I don't know if it has to do with maintaining the baseband. Does this happen to you? Can someone who has updated to 5.1.1 with iphone 4 tell me what version of modem you have? I stayed in 04.10.01 although I am about to update normal since ultrasnow has not updated versions of basebands for an awful lot.

Look for "ultrasnow", it is installed by cydia but specifically for the iphone4 I think there is only one version of baseband that can be released, 1.59.00. I'm not sure so look it up and confirm that your "modem firmware" matches that number. If not, you will have to look for a liberating card like Gevey but I have no idea about that.
