Cydia tutorial: learn how to manage the Jailbreak store

Jailbreak offers us many options that make our iOS devices more customizable and better suited to our needs. But to get the most out of what it offers us, it is essential to know how your application store works: Cydia. In this article we want to offer you a small tutorial on Cydia with video included in which you can know its basic operation, everything you need to find and install what we like in the huge list of Cydia applications, as well as the steps to associate an account and be able to buy applications.

Associate your account

It is the first thing we must do as soon as we have installed Cydia on our device through the jailbreak. Associating an account (Google or Facebook) will allow the purchases we make are associated with it and that when we want to reinstall them later, even on another device, we don't have to pay for them. The procedure is very simple: click on "Manage Account", choose Facebook or Google, and enter our data. Once our account is added, we will be able to see all the applications that we have purchased with it. Cydia also detects which applications have been installed on that device before and also allows you to download them without paying again.

Sections: the applications sorted by categories

When you want to search for an application in Cydia, you usually go to the "Search" section, but there is another way to do it, especially useful if you don't know the exact name. In Sections we can find all the applications ordered by categories: Addons, Widgets, Themes ... all well ordered so that it is easier to find. If there are certain categories that we do not want at all, we can deactivate them by clicking on "Edit" and unchecking them, in this way the reload of Cydia is much faster.

Manage packages, sources and storage

In the "Manage" section we can access the applications (packages) that we have installed to reinstall them if something fails or delete them if we no longer want them at all. By clicking on «Packages» we will see the list with all the installed applications, and selecting one we will be able to eliminate it, for which we will have to click on the button on the top right, «Modify». Be careful with the applications that you delete because it may be necessary for the correct functioning of another.

If we access "Manage> Sources" we can see what repositories we have installed. The sources or repositories are the servers from which we can download the applications. Cydia brings the most important ones pre-installed, but there are many others that we can add manually, or delete them. For both, you have to click on "Edit" and if we want to delete, click on the red button, or click on "Add" if we want to add a new one. To add it, you have to write the full address in the window that appears and click on «Add source».

In "Manage> Storage" we can see in graphics how the storage is distributed of our device, the occupied space and the free space of the two partitions that the system has. Nothing can be done in this section, it is only informative.

Find and install apps

The last section is that of the search engine. By typing the name, a list with the matches will appear as we type, and if we click on the "Search" button on the keyboard, it will do a more detailed search. Once the application is found, if we click on it, it will give us the option to "Install" if it is free or previously purchased, or to buy ("Purchase") if it is paid and we have not purchased it before. To buy it we can use our Amazon or Paypal accounts, always associated with the account that we have included in the "Manage Account" section as we pointed out at the beginning of the tutorial.
