Tutorial: remove Game Center completely

Surely many of you have noticed that with iOS 4.1 the autonomy of the iPhone has been considerably reduced.

Game Center, the service dedicated to video games that Apple implemented in firmware 4.1, causes excessive battery consumption so if you do not use this social network, below you have a tutorial to be able to completely uninstall the application and that your battery back to what it was before the firmware was updated.

Previous requirements:

  • iPhone with Jailbreak and iOS 4.1 installed.
  • OpenSSH installed on your iPhone
  • An SSH client for Mac (Cyberduck) or Windows (WinSCP)

Notes- It is recommended to back up the iPhone file system.

Tutorial:

  1. Connect the iPhone using the chosen SSH client (you need to know the IP address of the iPhone).
  2. Delete the following files (make a backup copy of them on your computer):
  3. - usr / libexec / gamed

    - System / Library / LaunchDaemons / com.apple.gamed.plist

    - Applications / Game Center ~ iphone.app

  4. Go to the route:
  5. System / Library / CoreServices / SpringBoard.app /

  6. Open the file N88AP.plist with a suitable editor and change the string:
  7. gamekit

    per:

    gamekit

  8. Restart the phone.

If everything went well, you have completely removed Game Center from your iPhone.

Hi, if we remove the gamecenter, does it increase performance? And how much exactly can the battery increase?

    Salu2

Sorry for my ignorance, but how does it consume battery if it doesn't run in the background? that is, consume without using it? as it does? Thanks a lot.
    Greetings.

someone knows how to delete a cracked game from game center, because there are some that when you delete them they don't ask you if you want to remove them like the others

Hello, has someone tried it and found that it really works? Greetings, it will consume battery when I'm involved in a game center game, but I don't know how it can consume more battery, greetings

Hello! I have an ipod touch 3g, I have followed the entire tutorial to delete game center, but in step 5 the N88AP.plist file does not appear, instead, I see two other files (I think) which are N18AP.plist and N71AP .plist.
    What was the problem?
    Thanks, greetings

I do not know if it will be a coincidence, or is it that I had not noticed before following the steps to de-install the game center, but now I am missing the compass, or rather, it is hidden but there is no way to get it back to the Springboard, ...

Diego, I'm sorry about what happened to you, but that's not my fault. The tutorial works perfectly (verified by me and other users) and if you have not made a backup of your file system that is only your problem, not ours. Next time do all the steps and you will avoid unnecessary trouble.

Thank you very much, I just did the tutorial and I'm going to see what happens, in principle the Game Center disappears from my springboard, and I'm going to check a couple of things with the battery.

    I repeat, thank you

this tutorial does not work !!! I just did it and the springboard does not start !!! now I have to restore thanks for your useless tutorial !!

    don't even try it !!

Nacho if it improves performance just by eliminating the game center, is it not enough simply not to use it ?? Thank you

It worked for me, I improved the battery a lot. But since I remove game center games with Street Fighter IV it doesn't work for me, it sticks before I start the game.

Does anyone know how to fix this? This game is too much!

  18.   luisfer said

It worked for me without a problem, the apps open without any problem following the tutorial to the letter ... the truth is I tried many things, in the end I was only suspicious ultrasn0w, youtube fix, sn0wbreeze and gamecenter ... eliminating gamecenter consumption is more than good … .Thank you very much for the tutorial, it definitely works!

  19.   luisfer said

In case anyone has doubts, the Gamecenter continues to consume data despite being closed the session, and closed in the background, it is not enough to not use it, the reason I do not know precisely but that if I confirm for this reason the battery life is drastically decreased .... if anyone knows the technical reasons I would appreciate to clarify ....

Thank you very much, it worked perfectly! I needed to get that garbage out of «game center» now to see if the battery performance improves, anyway I'm glad that at least that damn application is gone, since the update the battery lasted much less than before (and for a moment for another) there are rumors that it is for this application, thank you very much!

Greetings, without the last step is not deleted?
I don't get that file, instead I get N81AP.plist; and I don't want to modify it just in case.
    Does anyone know something?

  22.   iPhilip said

RMC, yes I have found the solution, since then I have switched from itouch3 to 4 and now to iPhone4 XD. Each device has a different NxxAP.plist, example: on my iPhone4 it is N90AP.plist and my itouch4 is N81Ap.plist. In itouch3 I remember that there were 2 .plist files and I deactivated the two gamekits of the 2 .plists, it does not affect the system at all. Greetings.

    1.    RMC said

Thanks a lot. I have the itouch 4, so I have to edit the N81A.
Could you please tell me how to edit it?

  23.   iPhilip said

The last step is mandatory, because otherwise you would not have done anything. Greetings to

  24.   iPhilip said

To edit it you can access by computer or by iFile (iFile is a file manager). I recommend iFile, which is easier.
Path to follow: System / Library / CoreServices / SpringBoard.app- look for N81AP.plist, press said .plist file and give properties / capabilities-look for gamekit and deactivate it and ok, device restart and that's it

    Very good, wonderfull ...

Thank you very much it cost me at first, I had to download a program so that windows could read the .plist file and be able to modify it. I had the problem that when I opened a game, GameCenter would appear and it would not let me use it, thanks to this they run me without any problem thanks 😀 (the problem must have occurred because I unlocked my iPhone and surely I did something wrong)

I have an iPhone 3GS it is American and it turns out that I fixed it and it was released and they told me that if I updated it I would lose the phone, is it true? and if not then to delete game center
