With this tutorial you can update your iPhone 4 or 3GS to iOS 6 keeping your baseband (to keep a releasable baseband, either with Ultrasn0w or with a gevey SIM). It is not valid for iPhone 4S because there is no software exploit for it.
You need:
RedSn0w 0.9.15b1:
The iOS 6 of your device:

Open Redsn0w
Press Extras
Press Even More
Press Restore
Press IPSW
Select the iOS 6 of your iPhone
It will ask you if you want to keep the Baseband, press Yes (yes)
It will tell you that you have to put the iPhone in Pwned DFU mode, press OK
Connect your iPhone to the computer and turn it off
Press Next
Redsn0w will guide you to put your iPhone in DFU
Press the power button for 3 seconds
Press the home button (while pressing the power button) for 10 seconds
Release the Power button and hold the Home button until redsn0w detects your iPhone
Your device has been detected
Redsn0w will create a restore image
The same Redsn0w will update your iPhone to iOS 6 without uploading the baseband, you don't need iTunes at all

Ok let's go in parts, if you have an A5 device (iphone 4s, ipad 2, etc ..) or higher that is upgradeable / downgradeable with reden0w, it is sure that the baseband will be updated.
If, on the other hand, you have an A4 device (iphone 4, ipod4) or an iphone 3gs, this update / downgrade with redsn0w will not update the baseband.

I have iPhone 4 CDMA, I have it with IOS 5.1.1 and jailbreak.
When I wanted to update it, the following happened to me.
1. The part that is mentioned here in the tutorial of "it will ask you if you want to keep the Baseband, press Yes" It did not appear, only a small window appeared that said "Baseband won't update" (Baseband does not update) 2. After putting it in DFU mode and that, it appeared to me that the Exploit could not be done (I do not remember exactly what it said, but it was that)
3. when I rebooted my iPhone it was in an infinite Resrping.

Since many have tried to update their Iphone 3gs or 4 to ios6 without uploading the baseband if successful. Opting error 2601 or weird stuff. Here I put a small guide to return to ios 5.xx without affecting the version of your baseband. (also applies to downgrade)
Before starting it should be clarified that this will not work if you do not HAVE THE SHSH SAVED LOCALLY OR IN CYDIA. Please, if you do not have the shsh, please do not ask how to downgrade, since without the shsh it is not possible.
I clarify, I have only tested it on iphone 3gs and iphone 4 gsm. And using windows, I don't have MAC !!!
We will need the following:
the firmware file 5.xxIPWS to which we want to return (and from which we have the SHSH)
Sn0wbreeze 2.9.6
redsn0w 0.9.15b2
and the latest version of itunes. 😀
1.- We execute Sn0wbreeze, press the OK button after the arrow, now we press the button «browse for an IPWS» and select our IPWS file of the firmware to which we are going to downgrade. We will identify the version and click on the arrow, now we select the option "Baseband Preservation Mode". We will be warned that using this option will only create a custom which only prevents the baseband update but lacks jailbreak. we accept and wait. At the end we will offer to put our device in DFU, just close Sn0wbreeze.
This will create an IPWS file on the desktop named sn0wbreeze_XXXXXXX.IPWS (where the Xs are the name of the base file used in sn0wbreeze).
NOTE: Some will ask a couple of things, and here are the answers so they don't ask
a) why not use sn0wbreeze to create a custom with jailbreak included ???.
R = This is because many people who used a custom with JB when restoring the backups of their devices, could not correctly view their photos (it can be solved, but we better avoid problems)
b) why not use redsn0w to create a custom that does not upload the baseband.
A = This is because some custom that I created with redsn0w when trying to restore with iTunes send an error, this especially happens to me with 5.1.1 build 9B208 for iphone4 gsm. In addition, creating a custom with sn0wbreeze has the advantage that it eliminates the OTA update section of the iphone configuration. 😛
2.- We execute redsn0w as administrator, on the main screen we put our device in DFU mode (home + hold for 10sec, after 10sec release hold while pressing home and wait for it to remain in DFU). then go to extras-> SHSH Blobs-> Stitch, now we press the «IPWS» button and open the file sn0wbreeze_XXXXXXX.IPWS that sn0wbreeze previously created for us. Then we select "remote", this will make redsn0w download the SHSH from the cydia server and start creating a new custom, but this time signed with our SHSH (you can use the SHSH that we have on the pc, but this method is more practical).
At the end it will warn us to use the file that has been created and not to use the original, the created file will have the name ECID_snowbreeze_XXXXXXX.IPWS (where ECID is the unique identification number of our device, which consists of 13 digits and shows us redsn0w below the button «remote» If we did not have the SHSH in cydia, redsn0w will notify us and it will not create this new custom.
3.- We press back-> back, and now we press the button «Pwned DFU», at the end it will put our device in Pwned DFU mode, with which it will be ready to receive our custom. we close redsn0w.
4.- We execute iTunes, it will detect our device in recovery mode, we accept, then pressing the shift key and without releasing we click the "restore" button, it will ask us to open the IPWS to use, we select the ECID_snowbreeze_XXXXXXX.IPWS file that we created with redsn0w above. And now we just have to wait for it to finish.
If everything was done according to this guide, let's open our device restored / downgraded without the baseband version being affected and the best thing is that without strange errors 😀
Once restored we can perform the jailbreak again.
If someone intends to publish this little guide somewhere else, at least mention the source (actualidadiphone) and the author (which is me :P)

Well, it can be done like this or, much simpler and in an all in one, using a single program: Redsn0w and following Gonzalo's tuto of the news, the only thing that choosing the ipsw of ios5.1.1, for example, instead of ios6, choosing to keep your releasable baseband when it gives you the option and if it asks you to specify if you keep the blobs locally or not (remotely, cydia I understand ...). Then jailbreak and that's it. I have already gone up and down twice from ios6 to ios5.1.1, it will give me an elevator complex.

Excellent Tutorial, very grateful, it really works, I have an iPhone 3gs New BR, I started updating it to iOS 6 to test, trying to preserve the Baseband and it was error after error, in the end I had to restore it to iOS 4.1 creating an IPSW with Snowbreeze and then use this Tutorial to bring it to iOS 5.1.1 upload Baseband to 06.15.00 and then Baseband Downgrade it to 05.13.04. I have a tremendous PC with Windows 7 Ultimate and really, as Cerial iQ says in windows, it gives too many errors. I'll wait for the Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 6. Thank you

The million dollar question is what we do if we upload to iOS 6 without uploading baseband if ultrasnow is not yet updated for iOS 6 and there is no tutorial to modify a file to make it work.
