Twitter launches its "Birdwatch" initiative to combat misinformation

Just yesterday, Twitter announced his latest initiative for combat the large amount of misinformation or false information that exists throughout your platform and has called her birdwatch, playing with the bird of your logo and observing the information that is published in it. Birdwatch is nothing more than a collection of tools crowdsourcing designed for allow users to mark Tweets as misleading and to write notes that can provide context to the information they contain.

Twitter is starting this initiative with an independent website (LINK) even though it is not available for all countries. At the moment, this is only available in the United States (as it usually happens in these cases). This is because at the moment it is a pilot program and not even from Twitter they are sure if this initiative can really combat misinformation.

Birdwatch allows users who discover misinformation to "create notes that add context to Tweets." It also allows each user to report to Twitter if they think a Tweet may be harmful. As we have mentioned, the system is crowdsourced, this means that no one will have the absolute truth and the rest of the users will be able to disagree with the conclusions of the rest.

At the moment, the notes will not appear on Twitter for normal users such as us. Nevertheless, If you want to participate in the pilot program, you can use the Birdwatch website to see the information and notes that are entered about the possible misinformation of each Tweet. All Twitter users can participate.

If you want to be informed of all the news about the Twitter pilot program, you just have to follow them on their own network at @Birdwatch. Apparently, If the pilot gives good results and has the desired impact, Twitter will expand these new functionalities to the platform at a general level.

It seems that all the media are taking this Fake News And with this pilot Twitter shows that it continues to do so after it already included informative messages about some Tweets that the information could be misleading or not in line with what the authorities say about COVID.
