Twitter begins testing a feature to report misinformation

Twitter

Since Jack Dorsey's return to the role of CEO of Twitter, the company has added a number of new features, some of which reach all audiences (and if they finally do not succeed they eliminate it as it happened with the fleets at the beginning of August).

The latest feature Twitter is testing allows users to report tweets that appear misleading, a function that, like other tests performed by the company, is geographically limited, specifically to the United States, South Korea and Australia.

According to the company, plans to implement this feature are to start small. Users can access the option to report a tweet as misleading after reporting a tweetAlthough it states that for the moment they will not take action, it is already a test in the experimental phase that will help the platform to identify trends to improve speed to combat misinformation.

When reporting a tweet, users in the United States, South Korea, and Australia will be able to select from the options:

  • It is misleading (we still don't know how they will translate it into Spanish)
  • I'm not interested in this tweet
  • Is it suspicious or spam
  • Abuses or is harmful
  • Expresses suicidal intentions

Researcher Jane Manchun Wong found this function a few months ago. At the time, Wong claimed that Twitter would allow misinformation tweets to be tagged into three categories. These labels, will be displayed along with the tweet when it is officially released for everyone.

Unlike Facebook, which has a rather peculiar way of fighting misinformation, Twitter is continually working to reduce it as much as possible, since due to the pandemic, levels of misinformation have reached alarming levels worldwide.
