Viafirma: digital signature client on iPhone / iPad

Viafirma Mobile

The digital signature and the use of digital certificates is already common in operations and telematic services of the Public Administration such as the Income Declaration online and other procedures of the Tax Agency, the application for working life in Social Security and many other procedures in town councils, councils, regional governments, central government institutions, etc. In addition, although there is less private initiative, services with digital signatures are also beginning to appear.

We usually access these services with web browsers, and the biggest problem is that in most cases they only work with the Microsoft Windows operating system and with a very restricted list of browsers, especially Internet Explorer. In addition, they often require installing local components that do not work on mobile devices.

Viafirma has created a digital signature client for iPad and iPhone that is now available for free in the Apple Store, as well as a client for Android systems available in the Android Market.
Viafirma is one of the main authentication and digital signature platforms on the market, used for example in the Bonuses system of the Tripartite Foundation for Employment Training. By installing the application in the Apple Store, we will be able to use our digital certificates without problems in those telematic procedures that use Viafirma.

Below you can see an example video showing the use of the digital certificate from the iPad and iPhone (notice, it is in English):

And also making an online request in a virtual office for the processing of telematic requests (this in Spanish):

The application needs us to add the certificates that we want to use. To do this, it implements the service of transferring files through iTunes, allowing you to add a digital certificate in software format (extension .p12, .pfx):

As we have commented, this application is a digital signature client, so it must be linked to a web application that provides the telematic service, and that we would navigate with the iPhone / iPad Safari itself. Therefore, for its use we will depend on whether public or private institutions implement their procedures with a digital signature with Viafirma. In order to test the authentication and digital signature with certificates, the application redirects to a demo of the system where we can test these services. We attach some screens about this operation collected in our tests:

Let's hope that the Public Administrations, banking entities, and in general the entities that provide telematic services, will begin to introduce solutions on their platforms that allow the handling of digital signatures with mobile devices, thereby favoring the Principle of Technological Neutrality contained in Law 11/2007. of Electronic Access of Citizens to Public Services.

It is a pity that Apple does not implement the use of certificates natively in Safari because I find it very difficult for Viafirma to be consolidated as a standard. In particular, it would greatly facilitate my work since I could access all the information from my iPhone or my iPad at any time and from anywhere, in addition to the typical uses of digital signature in emails and documents. If they want to bet on the use of the iPhone in the company at some point they will have to take this small step. It sounds to me like things are being developed for Blackberry.

    Hello,

I have the viafirma installed on my ipad and no matter how many times I give it, there is no way to use the digital certificate on any page that requires it. I have even sent an email to viafirma to explain how to use it and there is no reply, I believe that this viafirma does not have much future.

    A greeting.

Well, I asked the same thing and they answered me… Viafirma is a signature client that requires the use of a Viafirma server. If the website where you are entering does not have Viafirma obviously it does not work ... The application comes with an example URL that does work ...

As I understand it, the websites that use Viafirma services allow their users to use their digital certificates from an iPad for example.

While other websites, which do not use Viafirma ... namely! If even in a simple windows they fail! : '(

In other websites I have seen that they use something called @Firma, something similar to Viafirma in functionality, but that fails more than a fair shotgun !!!
