Video calls arrive on Facebook Messenger

If a few days ago WhatsApp received calls for all iOS-based devices, again Facebook Messenger is once again ahead of WhatsApp and has just launched video calls through the app. WhatsApp currently has a user base of almost 800 million active users (according to the company) while Facebook Messenger, which is in second place, is the messaging platform for some 600 million users.

To make video calls, we just have to use the camera button, available next to the call button within the conversation we are having, at the top right of the screen, as is the case with recently enabled calls in WhatsApp for iOS. It is not necessary to have a Wi-Fi network to use this function, although it is true that it is always recommended to use our 3G or 4G data connection.

This new feature is available from today in the following countries through an app update: Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal , United Kingdom, Uruguay and the United States. If you read correctly, Spain is not among the first countries that can already enjoy Facebook Messenger video calls. According to the company, in the coming months, this option will be available in more countries.

Video calls through Facebook Messenger are available regardless of the device used to perform them, they work for calls from an iOS device to an Android or Windows Phone and vice versa. This time, not as happened with WhatsApp VoIP calls, this new service has been activated on all platforms equally, regardless of the platform used by users.
