VLC adapts to iOS 9 taking advantage of its new functions

VLC is one of the best players we can use completely free for almost all mobile and desktop platforms currently on the market. It offers compatibility with almost all video formats, including mkv and subtitles, and audio except AC3, due to licensing problems (if they paid for them, it would no longer be free). If you want to enjoy the AC3 sound of your movies, you will have to pay for a compatible application.

This new update it has been completely rewritten from scratch to make it compatible with watchOS 2. But it is not the only novelty that this VLC Christmas update has brought. To begin with, VLC is already compatible with the Split View function of iOS 9, which allows us to watch our favorite movie while we consult, for example, our Twitter or Facebook account. They have also added support for Touch ID, which allows us to protect our movies using our fingerprint.

Another important novelty, at least for VLC users on devices with versions prior to iOS 9, is that no longer compatible with iOS 6.1 As it was until now, it is necessary at least to have iOS 7 installed on the device in which we want to install it to be able to enjoy our favorite movies, series or music.

What's New in VLC Version 2.7

  • Requires iOS 7.0, ceasing to be compatible with iOS 6.1 as before
  • Added support for SMB file sharing.
  • Added support for global search in “Spotlight”.
  • Added improved user interface support for right-to-left languages.
  • Added support for split screen appearance in iOS 9.
  • Added support for Touch ID to unlock app.
  • Option to configure continuous playback.
  • Option to configure gestures.
  • Added support for music albums with more than 1 disc.
  • Access credentials cloud.
