Vocolinc Flowerbud, the HomeKit-compatible aroma diffuser humidifier

The categories of accessories compatible with HomeKit are increasing, and today we are looking at a unique product in its category: the FlowerBud scent diffuser by Vocolinc. A device that is humidifier, aroma diffuser and lamp, all in one, and that also has all the functions that HomeKit compatibility gives it (in addition to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant).

A humidifier. a lamp and a diffuser

Of the three functions that this smart device performs, HomeKit only recognizes two: humidifier and lamp. Apple's home automation platform does not include aroma diffusers among its categories, but Vocolinc has had the happy idea of taking advantage of the humidifier function to diffuse aromas and thus keep your room smelling pleasant while achieving optimum humidity. If to this we add that to the good aroma you can add a decorative lighting that you can modify to your liking, the result is a very versatile accessory to which you will surely think of many possible locations in your home.

Its design is not far-fetched, on the contrary. If you are looking for diffusers, you will surely find very similar devices, but Vocolinc wanted to give it a more personal touch, as if it were a flower (hence its name). It is made of matte white plastic, with a translucent piece which is what allows the light to be seen. It is not a device that stands out for the quality of its materials, but if we take into account its function, it does not need it at all.

It is made up of two pieces that can be easily separated. The base is responsible for storing the water to humidify, to which we can add any aromatic essential oil. This base is where all the important elements of this Vocolinc FlowerBud are, the top piece being only a "funnel" through which the vaporized water comes out along with the aroma you have added. Its deposit is about 300ml, which is not much or little. With the use that I give it (about 4 hours a day) I have to fill it every two days, although this will vary a lot depending on how much humidity you want to achieve and the existing ambient humidity.

Two buttons located on the front allows you to control the functions of this FlowerBud manually, which is always a nice touch. Turning the light off or on, changing the color, turning the humidifier off or on and setting a timer (2, 4 and 6 hours) are the functions that we can perform with these buttons without having to resort to our iPhone.

And the aroma? Vocolinc doesn't include any samples in its box, but we can use whatever we like. It is very easy to find in physical stores or online, such as this set of oils of various aromas that you can get on Amazon for only € 12,99 (link). Depending on the number of drops you add to the water in the tank, the intensity of the smell in the room will vary. If my experience serves you, 10 drops of oil in a full tank (300ml) are used to maintain a pleasant aroma during the two days that the water tank lasts. When you fill it again, you also add the ten drops and you can vary the aroma to your liking.

If you want to see how this FlowerBud works, remove the upper piece and you will see how the water vapor from the base while the water moves throughout the tank. That is why it works as an aroma diffuser, since although the oil does not dissolve in the water (obvious) when it is in continuous movement the mixture is achieved. It must be said that you should not be afraid that the furniture where this FlowerBud is will be damaged by humidity, since there is not the slightest trace of water on the surface of it since I have been using it. Of course ... do not remove the upper piece because then water will fall on the furniture.

Regarding its function as a lamp, it is not a device that you can use to illuminate a room, no matter how small. Its purpose is not that, it will only serve as decorative lighting. You can regulate its intensity and color, so that you can achieve a very pleasant and relaxing environment., use it as a night light to sleep in, or as ambient lighting in the living room while watching a movie. By the way, if we talk about noise, you will barely perceive the occasional sound of a drip that is not annoying, quite the opposite.

Integration with HomeKit

Integration with HomeKit is a success for even a device of this type because in addition to controlling it with our voice (through Siri) we can create environments and automations so that we do not have to bother to remember to turn it on or off and thus always have our living room with a good aroma and optimal humidity. Of course, do not forget to fill the tank, because HomeKit does not warn you that it has run out of water, a failure that should be solved by Apple. The connection with the home WiFi network means that we can place it anywhere regardless of the distance to the control center.

With the Home application we can control the humidifier function quite simply, we can only set the humidity we want to achieve, and turn it on or off. The light controls are the usual ones on any HomeKit compatible smart bulb, being able to choose the brightness and color. Including the Vocolinc FlowerBud in HomeKit environments and automations is very easy, but if you have any questions you can see it explained in this article.

Vocolinc has its own application with which we can control the FlowerBud, with a somewhat messy design, but with some additional function, such as to notify us that the tank has run out of water or set the humidifier intensity in addition to setting the target humidity, or set a timer. This application «LinkWise», which is completely free and that you can download from this link, it also allows you to control any other accessory that you have added to HomeKit, so if you like it more than the native iOS you can use it without problems.

Editor's opinion

With discreet design and materials, this Vocolinc FlowerBud is a very interesting accessory to have at home and get a room that is well scented and with an optimal humidity level. Its lamp function is a welcome plus, and its very simple operation as well as the integration with HomeKit make it more than recommended for anyone looking for a diffuser and humidifier. For little more than the price of a conventional diffuser we can get a humidifier, diffuser and lamp that is also compatible with Apple's home automation platform. This Vocolinc FlowerBud is available in stores like Macnificos at a price of € 59,99 (link)
