Beware of FaceTime in Spain

Many of you have asked me if I have managed to make a call using Facetime, well, this afternoon I have been tinkering with the iPhone 4 and I have realized that Facetime requires activation in the preferences menu. Once we click on the activate button, a pop-up message will appear advising us that SMS messages may be sent at a cost. When I saw the notice, I canceled the activation of the video call and started to investigate online.

After several searches through forums and blogs, several users share my experience and some with significant scares in their telephone bills since the SMS that are sent when we activate Facetime are destined for a server located in the United Kingdom and whose number is 00447786206094.

After contacting Apple, we concluded that Facetime is not yet active in Spain And, therefore, the sending of SMS to the UK server is continuous, so the price of the invoice increases little by little without us noticing. The solution? Temporarily disable Facetime until further notice.

I also tell you that my operator is Orange and I have received a message informing me that an SMS was going to be sent at a cost to the user, however, many Movistar users do not receive such a warning and are seeing their bills become more expensive little by little.

We will keep you informed.

Go poop right? I already have it with orange and this happens ... I was going to try it as soon as I got home, a question does skype have support for video calls? it would be better no?

I attest to this ... With orange I gave ok to send the sms and activate it and in a day of attempts the bill has risen € 7 ... I know that I have lost them so be careful ... by the way you have orange, in the invoice you data consumption is doubled? I have everything in the same duplicate and a single day I have consumed 120mb of 3g ... I have called orange indignant and they have told me to call in 2 days that being new they do not see the movements reflected but I do not worry that it does not go away to check in nor will I have a connection ...

P.S. There is also no internet sharing with orange, right?

Zcool, try calling Apple telling them what happened, they will give you an incident number and it is possible that with that claim they will refund the money consumed by those SMS. In the invoice I do see duplicate Internet data, although the data that I have consumed appears correctly in the data consumption bar, even so, use the iPhone data counter, that one does not fail! As for tethering, before it was possible to use the iPhone as a modem although I do not know if with the launch of the iPhone 4 they have canceled this capacity. Let's see if the jailbreak comes out and I can do tethering with the iPad. All the best!

I am very interested in the subject of tethering, and more in Orange, which is the company I go to. Those of you who already have the iPhone 4 with Orange do not have this option active? Is there an alternative in Cydia? Thank you

It's what you have to go to a seedy company like Orange, you pay more and they offer you less.

    With vodafone I have:

9 euros in calls + 20 internet that includes all this:

    -150 mb roaming
    -TETHERING of 500 MB
-Internet at 7,2 MBPS (not 3,2 like orange and movistar) UNLIMITED, slow down to 386KBPS (instead of 128 for orange and movistar)
-350 SMS per month to ANY MOBILE OF ANY COMPANY.

    Long live vodafone!

Adrian, when you get the invoice with Vodafone, please comment on it. I hope you are lucky and you are not one of the many with data billing problems with Vodafone, with whom you then have to fight from 123 talking to South America to fix it for hours, and if you fix it.
I repeat, I hope it does not happen to you, and I do not mean it with irony. When the bill arrives, if you are okay, comment on it here to see how it goes.
    A greeting!

ATTENTION with Facetime; They ONLY charge if you make Facetime if you hit the button after making a normal call; but if you do Facetime from the beginning they DO NOT CHARGE.
They charge in that "Change" of Call to Facetime. ^

    * That happens to me, with Movistar *
I have done many Facetimes already, and they have only charged me 2 (for the reason I said before).

Well, I have an iPhone 4 with Movistar and I assure you that I have the Face Time ACTIVATED. I have not tried it yet, but in the menu the button that you indicate in the article is active.

Friends, I have the iPhone 4 with Movistar and I have just verified through their website in the online consumption, that they have charged me 3 sms to the United Kingdom to the number 00447786205094 at a rate of € 0,60 each, I imagine this It will be to fiddle with the FT, which I have not used yet, I have only tried to call through it.

    Call and claim now!

I update the previous entry ...
I have called movistar and they have not been able to tell me that they have charged me for those 3 messages, however for the inconvenience of charging me something improper they have told me that they give me a 15% discount on the next 3 bills ... I have put the relevant claim and I am sure they will return it.
Then I call Apple, they tell me that they have already realized the problem and that they are working on it, but they do not know why this is happening. They recommend for now not to use FaceTime…. (with the desire I had ……)

    Greetings to all

I know I'm very late but looking for the number 00447786205094 that appeared as international sms I got here. I have Vodafone and I have called 123, I have explained to them about the invoice without naming the Facetime thing and without saying anything, they have offered me a refund of the amount.
The strangest thing of all is that since I took the device out of the box, I have had Facetime deactivated ...
    A greeting!

Same to me. They charged me 4 SMS to the United Kingdom in December, and when I called 123 to ask, they returned 2,40 euros + VAT of the 4 messages, without asking, telling me that it is an isolated incident. The operator doesn't tell me anything else.
