Waze now supports the CarPlay dashboard interface

Waze for CarPlay

Since its launch in 2014, CarPlay has been adding improvements in both functionality and design. In 2019, Apple introduced a new interface for CarPlay, a panel-based interface that allowed you to add widgets to the home screen where an application interface is displayed.

With this new design, we can have open the navigation application that we usually use together with the widget to control playback, make and manage a call ... The last application that just updated to fit this new design is Waze, the Google Maps application.

After beta from the app, Waze has just been updated to integrate into the CarPlay dashboard. Until now, users who used the application to know the traffic status, radars and others, had to switch between the applications to manage the playback of music or podcast.

This functionality was first introduced with iOS 13, but as usual, it was limited to Apple Maps only. It wasn't until the release of iOS 13.4, when Apple allowed third-party developers add support for these panels in navigation applications.

Waze was one of the latest navigation apps to come to CarPlay. It did it in 2018 and since then, Google has been updating it by adding new functionalities. However, since Google is behind, there is always the fear that the application will end up in oblivion, since it offers us practically the same functions as Google Maps.

Maintain two applications that do practically the same thing it does not make any sense and less for Google, a company that does not tremble when it comes to closing services, no matter how popular they are, and a clear example is found when Google Reader was loaded.
