We will no longer be able to see YouTube videos in full screen in Safari

For some time now, YouTube stopped working with Flash to perfect its player based on HTML 5, a more fluid system and compatible with all the devices available so far. Due to this movement by YouTube, Google decided to give more importance to the Youtube application in the App Store, so in recent months they are encouraging and offering much more to users to download the application. Today we woke up with a surprise: Youtube has updated its video player when we browse with Safari, Chrome, etc ... and we can no longer see full screen videos from the browser, but if we want to see them in their maximum size, we will have to use the official application of the most popular video service of the moment.

Google wants everyone to download YouTube from the App Store

The change has been quite important for users who have a iDevice, but we can differentiate the changes at two levels, depending on what device we have:

  • iPad: the player is almost similar to the one we have on the desktop web: we can activate or deactivate the subtitles, change the quality, activate the notes ... This system works thanks to the compatibility of Safari, for example, with the language HTML5, since the player I'm talking about is based on that programming language.
  • iPhone and iPod Touch: here the change has been practically nil, although some new features are acquired, the design elements of the previous player have disappeared.

What happen? On both devices we cannot view the videos in full screen from the browser, that is, we do not have an option to put the video in full screen. It is clear that this is a strong and interesting bet by Google for us to download the official YouTube application since without it we will not be able to fully enjoy the visual service that the app can offer us.

It remains to be seen if they do it on other platforms. At the moment it seems like a trick to bypass the adblock in web browsers.
Don't be evil they said. Yes of course, until you do the monopoly, they should add.
We will have to assess alternatives, to see if they catch the hint.
