Inadvertently WhatsApp is encrypting iCloud backups

In a world in which (almost) everything is digital, there is one thing that should concern us: the security of our data ... And that is that we have to think that we practically have our entire lives on servers managed by third parties, information about us, our photographs, our tastes, payment methods ... Endless information that if it falls into the wrong hands can harm us a lot.

Everything has a high level of encryption, from a WhatsApp conversation, to the bank details that we have by default in the App Store. And on WhatsApp security is visible thanks to the messages that warn us that our conversations have end-to-end encryption, that is, only those involved in the conversation are able to see the message. And now, the guys from Facebook have been implementing a very interesting novelty related to the security of the WhatsApp app, and that is that without realizing it, WhatsApp also encrypts our conversations in the iCloud backups. After the jump we give you all the details ...

And it is that WhatsApp delegated the security of backups to Apple, obviously everything that goes through iCloud has its corresponding encryption, but Facebook wants to go a little further with WhatsApp and has wanted to add that extra layer of security to our conversations. That iCloud accounts are hacked and Apple's security is affected, WhatsApp with its own encryption will protect everything we save with the backup.

And every layer of security is welcome, in the end we are the ones who benefit the most from this, obviously companies know that we want secure applications and devices, and in this way they try, in a way, to convince us that they have the safest app. And you, are you concerned about the security of your digital data?
