Does your Apple TV turn on by itself in the middle of the night? You're not alone

apple tv 4

I thought I was going crazy.

Every night before I go to bed, my routine is to "put Apple TV to sleep." Turn off the TV and turn off the soundbar ». Goodnight. But in the middle of the night, when I woke up, I would see a steady, watchful light coming from the Apple TV. «I'd swear I'd turned it off«, I thought. The paranormal phenomena continued. When I came home from work there were days when my Apple TV waited for me on.

And that's not all. The problem began to spread to my television, which sometimes also turned on by itself, for no apparent reason. That's when I got suspicious: was just my Apple TV turning on? And indeed that is what happens, as we can see in the Apple official forums. The Fourth generation Apple TV has a bug that causes it to turn on by itself, even though we put her to sleep. A problem that in some cases also extends to televisions to which it connects via HDMI-CEC.

Everything indicates that it is due to a software problem and that it would be easy to fix with an operating system update. However, in the latest tvOS beta for developers, released this week, it is missing no trace of a solution to this bug. If from Apple they are not aware of this failure, I think that all the comments made in their official forums will have helped.

An unfortunate bug, especially if it also affects our televisions, since our electric bills will be affected. Quite a domino effect.

    Which fault?
Ahhh you mean the one about not connecting things to a power strip? Yes, the kind with a nice red button that really turns things on and off! They are super cool, a marvel of technology ...
And yes, I think you've gone crazy 😉

My God, stop the world, I calculate that this electricity cost will decompensate the planet and explode .. I think you should denounce them so that they pay the bill, anyway. As they said, there are power strips for that, and if you are really concerned about electrical consumption, unplug things and do not leave them on standby or similar.

I am amazed with the previous comments but even more so with your pseudo-solution. Let's see if I have an electronic device that allows you to leave it on stand-by, if it turns on after a while it just has a problem or bug as Pablo says. What the hell is it about recommending a power strip? But what are you doing? I do not have to be disconnecting from the power completely (which is what that little red button you are talking about does) all my devices (Apple TV, Television, etc.) because the Apple TV has a bug in its OS that even affects my device of TV. This is something that Apple has to solve now.

It seems that you downplay all importance to the fact that due to a failure of the Apple TV OS we have to do botches to fix the third party failure, it is amazing. In addition to, as is my case, many of us do not have easy access to that strip that is behind the cabinet where we have the TV, and what the hell! The thing is that I don't have to be doing this when my devices have to go into Stand-by mode if I so choose and they have that function implemented that everyone has today.

Come on, this is sensational, I get up at night to drink water for example and I see that by magic my TV is turned on, wasting light and useful life due to a failure of the Apple TV OS and your solution is, instead to require Apppe to fix it, to buy me a power strip ??? As I say, I hallucinate with some opinions, what a panda.

I think the same as you. It is crazy that people are so conformist and pretend that one has to solve the problems that the manufacturer that sold you the product should solve (and by the way at a quite high price). I like Apple, but I am not going to defend mistakes like that, to err is human, but they are paid for quality. Let THEM fix the damn problem ...

Red button on the strip, it says: strip. doh!
And I hallucinate with you, standby mode ... Hahahaha. And you sure also believe in Santa Claus, right?

I do not like this but you are the one who has started champion…. It is clear, we have before us the fool of the blog.

      Hello,
I totally agree with you. What Apple should do is fix the problem. We are not exactly buying products at a flea market.
It is assumed to be state-of-the-art technology and we should not mess around as some suggest.

That happened to me once. I rebooted him from the menu and never again. And I've had it since the day it came out.

The momentary solution I found is to delete all the programs that remain open and only the Apple TV no longer turns on

The excess of tactile sensitivity in the remote control makes us understand it unintentionally, just touching a little inside the bedside table would cause the device and the television to turn on.

You unplug the Apple TV and that's it (power cable), so you extend the useful life until the problem is solved, which is what I do.

Besides, it is not only that it turns on but that another device carries the information, this can be the cell phone in case you have an iPhone. This serves so that when one occupies the Apple TV it responds quickly. But if they must perform an update.

In my house we have three old Apple TVs and several iPhones and ipads and I have always observed that detail, especially now I notice it since I bought a sound bar and observed the pantslla on it on certain occasions.
