Yousician, the application on my iPhone that is teaching me to play the piano (and in the future the guitar and ukulele)

Yousician

When I was little I liked music a lot, and playing an instrument was one of my goals, so I went to some classes where they taught you to interpret the staff and notes, as well as other musical symbols, over time this hobby as a child was becoming serious and there comes a time when to continue you have to make a considerable investment, an investment in instruments, materials and professional classes that not everyone is willing to pay for a "simple" hobby, and I have not wanted to dedicate myself to playing any instrument professionally, but I have always wanted to know how to play the piano or the guitar as a hobby, and as with many other things, you don't know how to start.

Over time I rescued an old piano that was bought for me in my childhood, a mix between a toy and a professional piano from the Bontempi house. an affordable piano for any pocket and full of features to advance in the world of music, and I set out to learn to play it, when I ran into the aforementioned problem, I did not know how to learn without having to shell out a "generous" amount of money in a conservatory, and so I remembered a fantastic application that I saw a long time ago called Guitarbots, an application that made you a guitar teacher listening to you play and giving you "feedback" in real time, I thought it would be wonderful if that was also used to learn to play the piano, And that's when I ran into Yousician.

Coincidentally GuitarBots and Yousician have turned out to be the same, GuitarBots was an application that was withdrawn from the AppStore due to the launch of Yousician, an application that not only taught you to play the guitar, but also included the piano and even the ukulele (in case your dream is playing this instrument of Hawaiian origin).

I already had everything, instrument and learning method, and over time I have been able to start learning to play the piano on my own with the only help from my iPhone, which in this case is my teacher thanks to Yousician.

Learning method

Yousician

Yousician uses your iPhone hardware to make Music teacherThanks to the microphone of our device, it listens and recognizes in real time the keys that we play on our real piano, and it is not necessary to get a piano that is worth hundreds of euros, any piano is worth, if it is not one of these toy ones that play the cockroach better (although if it plays real piano sounds it will most likely work too), with a € 80 Casio you have enough.

To learn to play the piano, I place the iPhone on top of it with one of these suction cups that stick behind and allow the iPhone to stand upright, and I start doing what the application tells me, and that is it is very easy to use, the application itself highlights the keys that you are going to require for each lesson by assigning them a color and a letter, by playing them on your piano you will be able to locate them since when you play a note on your piano it will be activated on the virtual keyboard of the application, once Yousician has heard you play the notes required for the lesson will start the class (English en, yes, although English is quite simple to understand, and I would even say that it is not necessary to understand it to use Yousician).

In a pentagram they will appear colored bars with an assigned letter and a certain length, you will have to press the corresponding key when the ball that is jumping touches the color bar, and you will have to keep the key pressed until the bar is finished, you could say that it is like playing Guitar Hero, but a little more complete (and not so difficult, since at the beginning it is practically learned with 3 fingers of one hand).

As you go playing the application will listen, and in real time it will mark each bar of a color, green if you have played it well, red if you have played it wrong, and it will even tell you if the volume of your iPhone (which plays the entire song with you to accompany you) is too high as to be able to hear the notes of the piano, it is practically a delight, you will know immediately if you are playing well or not, and in just a few minutes you will have related the letter and the color with the corresponding key, so that you can play songs by seeing only these bars.

The application gives you little by little lessons and even exams, the initial exam for example (which is carried out after learning to use the 5 fingers of one hand, the second day of class practically) will evaluate your knowledge to know if you are a complete novice and teach you from scratch or if you are an advanced user and adapt the level of difficulty to your level, so there are no excuses to start learning with Yousician, whether you have not played a piano in your life or if you have been going to classes for years.

Affordable for any pocket

Yousician is a service that can be used for free, but in this case it has a learning time limit every 12 hours, a limit that is neither very short nor very long, once this time is over you can continue using the application but only with lessons and songs that you have already unlocked and without the response in real time, although this blocks you from Going further until after 12 hours, it allows you to review everything you have learned to have it completely mastered before moving on to the next lesson.

Yousician

If you want to pay for unlimited learning, Yousician Premium has a cost of € 19 per month, a cost much lower than that of a conservatory and that can be easily assumed in comparison, it could be said that with € 100 we have the instrument and the first month of classes paid, and even so it is cheaper than a conservatory.

Yousician as a professional tool

Yousician

The Yoisician team does not want to limit its platform, the goal is to share and disseminate music, teach it and create it, and therefore not only allows free use of its service (in a limited way as I have mentioned) but allows each one to upload their own lessons and even music teachers to upload lessons and send them to their students, being able to receive feedback in real time as well and doing exercises more easily and intuitive from home, it is undoubtedly a tool that can help many teachers in this sector, it is as if it were the iTunes U of music.

Thanks to Gamification (technique that allows disguising tasks as if they were games) the students will learn in a fun way as if they were playing the console, this will help them to take their music lessons with more enthusiasm.

Very good review, I don't know when you posted it, but currently, Android has full support and not just guitar support.
