Apple patents flexible battery for future foldable devices

When I have read this news I have remembered one thing. In the race to conquer the space that the americans and russians Decades ago, US engineers designed a pen with ink pressure so that astronauts could write without gravity. The Russians just used a pencil and problem solved.

Now we see that Apple has patented a flexible battery to power future folding devices. And I think: Wouldn't it be enough to two batteries, one on each side of the folded part? Anyway, they will know.

Apple has just registered a new, somewhat curious patent. It is US Patent No. 10.637.017 titled «Flexible battery structure«. In it, it is explained that batteries often take up a substantial amount of space in a portable electronic device. As devices have grown increasingly power hungry, greater amounts of space need to be dedicated to accommodate the space available for batteries.

Apple's various proposals focus on working with both batteries and the connections between them. For example, flexible battery cells they can be rolled into discrete cylinders and then distributed through a flexible substrate, the document explains. And he adds: "Depending on the interval between the discrete cylinders and the diameter of these cylinders, the resulting battery can flex on an axis."

Much of the patent details different mounting and distribution methods of battery cells, as well as explaining how to relieve the stresses that this causes in the material of the battery itself.

All this does not mean that Apple is going to launch a next Foldable iPhone or iPad soon. It is very economical to patent an idea. All companies patent hundreds of them that often do not become reality, but for very little money, they are cured in health and patented to avoid possible problems if one day they are manufactured.
