A few days ago, the CEO of Tesla lashed out at Tim Cook and Apple, accusing them of not paying attention to Tesla sales offers at the company's worst moments. However, these attacks came from a story published by a UK-based news agency. The key to that news was that Apple could start production of its car in 2024. It's no secret that Apple has been working on this project for six years and perhaps there is very little left to see the first results publicly. What's more, the launch could come with novel technologies around the battery of the car.
An Apple car for 2024?
Reuters has been in charge of spreading a news item that places Apple at the center of automotive innovation by 2024. Those interviewed anonymously say that the Big Apple is making progress in the development of new batteries and that for him or her it has been like 'seeing iPhone for the first time'.
This statement could be related to the technology used by Apple's car, already dubbed Apple Car. According to the source, the car could have dozens of LiDAR masters that would allow the car to have 'self-awareness' thanks to augmented reality algorithms and artificial intelligence. There are also news about the batteries, which claim to be a radical innovation over other cars:
Apple's design means that more active material can be packed inside the battery, giving the car a potentially longer life. […] A chemical composition for the battery called LFP, or lithium-ferrophosphate, is also being examined, which is inherently less prone to overheating and therefore safer than other types of lithium-ion batteries.
However, for Tesla CEO Elon Musk, this 'unicell' technology that is talked about in the news cannot be real. This is what he commented in one of his tweets, in which he also criticized Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple:
Strange, if true.
- Tesla already uses iron-phosphate for medium range cars made in our Shanghai factory.
- A monocell is electrochemically impossible, as max voltage is ~ 100X too low. Maybe they meant cells bonded together, like our structural battery pack?

La Mass production of the Apple Car could begin in 2024. However, no one dares to offer exact dates since this project has been delayed by the Big Apple on many occasions. In addition, the delays caused by the SARS-CoV-2019 pandemic are producing unexpected decisions due to the forecasts of the companies themselves.
