Apple continues to withdraw apps at the request of the Chinese government

Tim CookChinese

The withdrawals of applications from the Chinese App Store, at the request of the government, have long ceased to be news. Normally, the government of the country requires the withdrawal of applications that are of certain categories, rather than making requests individually.

However, the latest news related to the control of the Chinese government over the App Store, draws special attention, since it is a specific application. I am talking about the Quran Majeed Pro app that allows users to read and listen to the Quran.

The withdrawal of this application has been announced through Apple Censorship, a website that is responsible for monitor Chinese government movements on the App Store

BBC News contacted the app developers, Pakistan Data Management Services, who state that:

According to Apple, our Quran Majjed Pro app has been removed from the Chinese App Store because it contains content that is illegal.

We are trying to contact the China Cyberspace Administration and relevant Chinese authorities to resolve this issue.

The reason is not clear, since the Chinese government recognizes Islam as a religion. Most likely, the China Cyberspace Administration considers that the application contains illegal religious texts according to the government.

The Koran Majeed Pro application has been retired only from the Chinese App Store and continues to be available in the rest of the world, including the Spanish App Store, where the application is priced at 14,99 euros.

Quran Majeed Pro is available for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch and allows you to read and listen to the full text of the Quran through world-famous reciters, as we can read in the description of the application.
