Apple is to blame for the iPad falling in sales

The Apple tablet is not going through its best moment. In general, tablets are suffering a significant drop in sales that seems to have no end, but Apple, with the absolute supremacy that for years it enjoyed in the tablet market, seems to be determined not to offer a solution that helps to overcome sales of your iPad, a product that if it has never been the one that has brought you the most benefits, it does constitute an important part of your business without forgetting that it is an icon that has given its name to a whole category of products. ¿Apple can be blamed for this situation? To a large extent yes, and we give you the reasons below.

A new market that has hurt you

Phablets didn't exist when the first iPad was released. For a long time, those who wanted to watch a movie or navigate comfortably needed a device larger than their smartphone, which had a small screen valid for day to day, but not for other tasks that the iPad performed much better for its size. However, the arrival of these giant smartphones has changed the rules of the game.

It cannot be said that a phablet replaces an iPad, it is obvious for obvious reasons, but many users already they will not see the need to purchase another product to have a smartphone so large that it allows you to perform those tasks in a similar way. The iPhone 6 Plus is a bestseller. The supposed discomfort of carrying it in your pocket is more than compensated with its larger screen, its much more durable battery and its FullHD screen.

No differentiating function

To the above, it must be added that the main virtue of iOS 8 may be the main cause that the iPad is seeing its increasingly smaller market. ¿What can I do with an iPad that I can't do with an iPhone? Actually the answer is very difficult to give, and the easy thing is to say "Nothing" directly. Yes, there are many applications whose user experience is much better on the iPad because of its larger screen, but very few. Even if something has to be said, it is rather the opposite. The iPhone can, for example, be linked to an Apple Watch, something that the iPad will not be able to do by Apple's decision.

Apple should provide the iPad with its own functions, differentiating from the iPhone, so that whoever wants to enjoy them has to buy an iPad. The one that surely many of you have in mind would be multitasking on screen. That function that appeared in one of the iOS 8 Betas (hidden, yes) and about which we have not heard anything afterwards. The iPad screen would be perfect for this function. Surely Apple could also list a long list of functions that the iPad could have exclusively. iOS 9 could finally be the operating system that makes the iPad a "pro" device.

The new MacBook

As if that were not enough and the iPad had few "enemies", the iPhone 6 Plus is now added the MacBook. The professional sector has long been waiting for an iPad Pro, larger and with more productive features, and what they have received is the new MacBook. A device with a size, weight and autonomy that is very close to the iPad, but that has the productive tools from any Apple laptop, with a Retina display and full keyboard that iPad can only dream of.

Obviously the price is very different, of course. It is not a laptop that is an option for any iPad buyer, but it is for many who have to buy a laptop to work, and an iPad to carry with them. A single device that brings together the best features of the two is the best option.

iOS 9 and WWDC can be your salvation

iOS-9

In June WWDC 2015 will take place, the meeting in which Apple will present its software novelties for this year, for both mobile devices and computers. This may be the big time in which Apple does not show what it has to "save" the iPad. That the fault of its fall is Apple is good news, because the same Cupertino company is the one that has the tools to save your tablet.

I think you have missed mentioning a broader renewal cycle than that of the iPhone. Specifically, I place it between this and that of a PC / Mac: in 3-4 years.
Personally, I am very happy with my iPad Air as a consumer device at Cas (I managed to go 15 days without turning on the laptop). But in my opinion the lack of differentiation with the iPhone ("it's a big iPhone") can end up killing it.

In my opinion, once the tablet market is filled, the renewal time for the general public will not be annual, but in the longer term.

With which it is more difficult to sell once the parquet is complete.
