Apple sued again for infringing two bluetooth-related patents

A few days ago, we informed you of the claim that Apple had finally lost and that it had cost the Cupertino-based company nearly $ 500 million for patents related to FaceTime and the Messages application. Today we are talking about a new demand that has been received at the Cupertino offices.

We are talking about the company Rembrandt Wireless Technologies, a company that has filed a lawsuit against Apple in the Texas court, in which it accuses Apple of infring two patents in his name related to bluetooth technology. According to this company, the affected patents are 8.457.228 and 8.023.580.

In the lawsuit, Rembrandt claims that all Apple products that support bluetooth 2.0 or higher with EDR (Enhanced Data Transmission Rate) including iPhone 3GS and later, plus all iPad and Apple Watch models, various Mac models and the HomePod infringe patents 8.457.228 and 8.023.580. EDR technology allows data transmission speeds through this type of connection in a much faster way.

These patents describe wireless communication techniques that appear to be related to EDR bluetooth technology, so the alleged infringement could extend to virtually any device with this technology. Precisely this same court ordered Samsung to pay this company 11 million dollars for these two patents, so it is more than likely that the same thing happens to Apple.

Although Rembrandt is not currently the owner of the patents, which expired on December 4, the company claims that you are still entitled to compensation for damages for the infringement of Apple before the expiration of the patents.

In the case of Samsung, it was a jury who calculated the total amount to be paid. Rembrandt too have requested a jury trial for this to be in charge of determining the amount that Apple will have to pay.
