Apple will earn less with the iPhone 12 despite removing the charger

The controversy over the decision to remove the charger from the box of the new iPhone is on the table, but the reality according to Barclays is that Apple will earn less with these new iPhone.

It was already taken for granted but like all decisions of this type that Apple makes, the controversy is served. Removing the charger from the iPhone 12 box has been unwelcome by almost anyone, and the eco-friendly argument has convinced few. Many media and users think that it has been a movement to earn more money, but the reality is that it seems the opposite. According to Barclays, the iPhone 12 will significantly reduce Apple's profit margin, it may even lower the average selling price.

Apple has kept prices from last year with its new iPhones. The iPhone 12 mini, the cheapest, has a price of € 809 which is the same as the iPhone 11 had last year, the cheapest of that range. The iPhone 12 Pro costs € 1159, the same as the iPhone 11 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max € 1259, the same as the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Among the changes they have added is the inclusion of 5G for all models, even the expensive 5G mmwave in the United States. We also have OLED screens on all models, unlike last year where the cheapest ones had LCD screens. To this we have to add that the basic iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have 128GB of storage, compared to 64GB last year.

The removal of the charger and the EarPods headphones from the box does not compensate by far the extra cost of all these novelties, so that Apple will see reduced the profit margin that it achieves with each sale of the new iPhone. Not only that, Barclays believes that the median sales price this year will be lower. Many users will not be attracted to a 5G that is yet to reach almost anywhere in the world, and the price of the iPhone 11 (€ 689) will be very attractive to many, just like the iPhone 12 mini. So the average selling price of the iPhone will probably be lower than last year.

Barclays concludes its analysis (link) with an estimate that ensures that, due to all this,  Apple shares will fall 19,6%, placing its price around $ 100.

    Ha ha ha
Apple lose? Enough money they made already, and well deserved. But we are at a point where they stopped selling us flagship, novel, exclusive products ... it is a more (expensive) phone in which you will not find any other feature other than a high-end phone for half the price. We are loyal to Apple because we have a set of products that work very well with each other, nothing more.
And yes, its pro-ecological marketing, apart from being a lie to take advantage of raising more funds, not only in the iPhone 12 but in previous ranges from now on, I find it unfortunate with such high prices.

I have reviewed the entire article, and of the 390 words it contains, the word "lose" or derivative is not written even once ... I don't know which article you have read, but it seems that this one did not.

Haber Luis the kid is absolutely right, but knowing that when those who have planned do not win they declare it as lost, what is clear is that apple does not lose but with those prices it does not give anything away either. And by the way, the environmental excuse is not believed by them.
        It is my humble opinion

Let's see ... Can you explain to me what this has to do with what the article says? Read it well please ... that all it says is that the manufacturing price of the iPhone has risen and that removing the charger and headphones does not compensate for that rise. That's it ... everything else is movies that you make yourself. Has anyone said that Apple will lose money? Has anyone said that iPhones are cheap?
