Disney to license non-original content for its streaming video service

Netflix and Spotify have paved the way for on-demand and streaming content. This path is now being followed by large companies, studios and services. Among them, Disney, which long ago announced its intention to launch Disney + in 2019.

Disney + will be Disney's video on demand and streaming platform and of all his studies. It is clear that we will have the Disney films themselves, those of Pixar, LucasFilm (Star Wars), Marvel, etc.

But, it seems that, in addition to the extensive catalog that Disney already has and all that is yet to come, they plan to acquire licenses to offer third-party content. Something that Amazon PrimeVideo or Netflix already do, which offer an extensive catalog apart from their own series and movies.

Of course, When Disney + arrives - presumably in 2019 - Disney will begin creating original Disney + content. Including a High School Musical program, an animated series from Monsters Inc., and Star Wars titles, among others.

As well, Disney has confirmed that Captain Marvel will be the first film to be released exclusively on the Disney + service.

Where Disney + will go remains to be seen. By not having a proprietary distribution platform, It is to be assumed that, like Netflix, it will release applications for the different operating systems, televisions and multimedia centers.

Of course, the price of the service is also unknown. However, due to the quality and quantity of the content that it will offer, I do not doubt that it will be priced high compared to other platforms. Let's remember that sagas like Star Wars and Marvel movies are among the highest grossing and their fans will not last in hiring Disney + to enjoy the content - hopefully in 4K UHD-. At least I will not hesitate and hope it arrives as soon as possible.

At the moment in Spain Disney does not edit its films in 4K UHD bluray, hopefully it changes its mind at Disney +.
