Greyhound and Wolfwalkers give Apple first Oscar nominations

One of the ambitions that Apple has always had since they presented their streaming video service in November 2019 was to get an important nomination. During his freshman year, he garnered three Golden Globe nominations for The Morning Show, yet his came up empty.

Yesterday afternoon, Apple again achieved the goal of the nominations, this time for the Oscars of the Academy of Hollywood. The films that Hollywood academics have selected as nominees for this year's Oscars are Greyhound and Wolfwalkers.

Greyhounds

A week ago, the BAFTA award nominations from the British Film Academy were announced. Apple received two nominations for the films Greyhound and Wolfwalkers, so we could consider it as a preview of what was to come.

The film starring Tom Hanks, Grehound has been nominated in the category of Best Sound, a minor award, but it marks the first foray into the Oscars. The animated film Wolfwalkers has been nominated in the category of Best Animated Film.

According to Zack Van Ambrug, Head of Apple Worldwide Video after the announcement of the applications:

There is nothing more exciting than seeing these unique and meaningful films resonate with both critics and audiences globally. We're incredibly proud of what we're building at Apple, and that these movies are being celebrated in this way - and in such a short time - we're humbled and grateful for the artists and filmmakers who have partnered with us.

Wolfwalkers will compete in the category of Best Animated Film with Onward, Sould and Granjaguedon: Shaun the Sheep Returns.

Greyhound, meanwhile, will compete against Mank, News of the World (a film starring Tom Hanks), Sould and Sound of Metal.

The 93rd edition of the Hollywood Academy Oscars will be held on April 25 at an event broadcast by ABC.
