How would a Weather app be influenced by the purchase of Dark Sky?

A few days ago we learned that Apple acquired the Dark Sky application, known for its 'hyperlocal' weather predictions. However, this is bad news for wearOS and Android users as the app will stop working on their platforms as of July 1. The purchase of this app by Apple will not fall on deaf ears and we hope to see substantial improvements in the Weather app on iOS 14. That is why some designers have got to work to show us what a Weather app would look like in iOS 14 influenced by the lights and shadows of Dark Sky.

Time: More visual, more colorful and more dynamic

Parker Ortolani has been in charge of realizing this concept that tries to unify the best of dark sky on a powerful base such as the iOS 13 Weather app. The recently purchased application stands out for its satellite maps with different display modes, notifications with relevant content for where the user is, and its overall design.

For Ortolani the new application of time must have a new design, influenced not only by Dark Sky but by the line of changes of iOS 13, since this app takes a long time without changing its structure. In the images we can see a large amount of white which would be a good point to later turn it into a vision for dark mode. In addition, the most relevant thing on the screen is the icon of the weather, the temperature and the place where we are consulting the forecast.

Also included a prediction map where we can slide our finger across a bar throughout the day, and check on satellite what the weather will be like in our location, just as we could do in Dark Sky. On the other hand, it integrate relevant notifications such as the possibility that it starts to rain in our location or the arrival of another meteorological phenomenon. In this way, we can have access to the relevant information of the app without accessing it or being aware of its update.
