OS X El Capitan is now available: How to Download and Compatible Macs

the yosemite

Apple announced yesterday that today the final release of OS X El Capitan. The new version of the operating system for Macs is already among us and is available for free. The process to update to OS X El Capitan is extremely simple: we just have to go to the Mac App Store, in the Updates section, and see if it appears. If you're frustrated because it doesn't appear, don't worry, because you can also download it from the Mac App Store page.

The Captain was presented during the last edition of WWDC, held in June. Since then, the company has been offering a series of updates to users and developers who have been part of the public betas. These preview versions of the operating system have worked normally, although early updates slowed down older Macs.

In my case I have had the opportunity to test the various betas on an iMac from 2011 and the latest results have been optimal: the operating system moves smoothly and although the main novelties cannot be seen with the naked eye, the truth is that they will help improve your productivity once you become familiar with them.

OS X El Capitan includes new features for the native application of Email (such as the ability to open tabs) and is accompanied by new tools in Safari, Spotlight more complete and intelligent, multitask double window (similar to the one we have in the last generation of iPad) and a curious function that allows us find the mouse when it gets lost on the screen.

This is the list of Macs compatible with OS X El Capitan:

  • iMac (Mid 2007 and later)
  • MacBook Air (late 2008 and later)
  • MacBook (late 2008 aluminum or early 2009 and later)
  • Mac mini (early 2009 or later)
  • MacBook Pro (mid 2007 and later)
  • Mac Pro (early 2008 and later)
