Both HBO, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are available in Spain with a large number of fiction series, not only national, but also from other countries, mainly the United States. Every time Netflix arrived in a country (today it is available in all the countries that the American government allows) it stated that I would create my own content, a statement that it has fulfilled perfectly but it seems that it is not enough for the European Union.
As we can read in the Variety publication, streaming video services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video (HBO not mentioned) will have to increase your European offer, until it represents 30% of the total in the European countries where it provides services (which are all something that does not happen, for example with HBO, hence it has not been included).
Roberto Viola, Head of the Department of communications networks, content and technology, of the European Union, affirms that with these new norms, they want the European product be an important part of the catalog of these services. This law will probably be approved and take effect in December.
Video streaming services They will have 20 months from the approval of this new law to comply with it., leaving some countries to decide if they want to increase this quota to 40%. They can also invest money in the national bodies of each country that offer financing to national films.
