Samsung will present its "AirDrop" hand in hand with the Galaxy S20

AirDrop

Many are the users who enjoy the benefits that AirDrop offers us, not only to share any type of file with our close friends (physically) but also to send content from the Mac to the iPhone / iPad / iPod touch and vice versa. Google has been working on an alternative for a whilebut once again, it will be late.

Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are working on a protocol that allows any type of file to be sent to nearby devices as if it were AirDrop. The next manufacturer to introduce a similar feature will be Samsung, and will likely do so in the presentation of the Galaxy S20 (Galaxy S11).

According to the guys from XDA Developers, this function will be called Quick Share and will work in a similar way to AirDop, allowing us to instantly send any type of data, be it files or contacts to other Galaxy that are in the environment, as long as both terminals have the function activated.

As in AirDrop, Galaxy terminal users will be able to restrict who can send them content (Everyone or Contacts). But not everything will be similarities with AirDrop, since Quick Share will have a temporary cloud space which will allow users to transfer data to Samsung SmartThings smart devices. The maximum size of these files will be 1 GB with a maximum of 2 GB per day.

AirDrop came from the hand of iOS 7. Android had a similar feature called Android Beam, a function that disappeared with the launch of Android 10. Since then, users have to resort to the traditional way, via bluetooth, to share any type of contact or file.

In order for both QuickShare and the protocol Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are working on to be a real alternative to AirDrop, this must allow to send content to computers, at least those managed by Windows.

The problem with these technologies is that they are only valid within the same brand, if I have Apple and my friend Huawei, or Samsung or Xiaomi, «the invention» is of little use. In the end you pass it on by mail, wetransfer or whatsapp ...
