Steve Wozniak uses an iPhone 6 to enter his hotel room

And if you run out of battery, what happens? You can not get in? or is the chip detected even if it has no battery?

If it does not have a battery, power does not reach the chip and it could not work, in any case at reception I suppose that it can be solved easily because it is obvious that it is a limited way to enter through the battery, surely you have a card for these cases

It does not use NFC technology, instead it works with Bluetooth 4 LE. The NFC chip is not open to developers (yet).
