One of the applications that has been most affected in recent cases of terrorism due to the encryption of their communications has been Telegram, which according to some media, has become the terrorists' favorite channel to communicate. Controversy has arisen again after the Indonesian government has banned the service throughout the country by denying the courier service to eliminate public channels related to terrorism. Finally, it seems that everything has been a communication error between the government and the platform, at least that is what Pavel Durov, founder of this application says.
Indonesia is home to the most abundant population of Muslim origin, and little by little the government has seen Islamic radicalism becoming a growing problem that they want to tackle as soon as possible. Last Friday the Indonesian authorities blocked access to Telegram, stating that the app had several public channels on which radical propaganda of Islamic terrorism was carried out.
A day after blocking the service, the country's communications minister, Rudiantara, told Reuters that Telegram the government had not processed the request to eliminate radical channels fast enough, in addition to stating that they want to collaborate with this type of company but they also need to know where they have to go to make their requests and that they are fulfilled as soon as possible.
The founder of this messaging platform, affirms that everything has been a misunderstanding between the authorities and the company, stating that they had not received any communication requesting the removal of these channels. In the same statement, Pavel affirms that "Telegram is strongly encrypted and oriented to privacy but we are not friends of terrorists" and that they will continue in contact with the government of the country to eliminate any type of public channel that encourages terrorism in the country .
