Samsung has wanted to bet this year strong and has dared to present a device that, according to many, will mark the future of smartphones. The Galaxy Fold is the first folding smartphone that has been put on sale, available to anyone who wants to spend about $ 2000 on a smartphone.
Listed by many as a prototype that should not have been put up for sale, by others as a sign that Samsung wants to lead the way for smartphones by placing itself ahead of other brands, such as Apple, It seems that the first impressions were not being all bad, until the screen has not held more. Can Samsung afford another fiasco like the Note 7?
It can be argued whether a folding phone is really useful or not, if Samsung's concept is successful or not, if the Huawei alternative is aesthetically better, or if that square format makes sense for multimedia consumption. But what is indisputable is that the Korean company has wanted to bet on presenting something new, and it has also done so strongly, with a device that will reach its first buyers in a few days. Those who already have it are many bloggers and youtubers from around the world, who have seen how after a couple of days of use the screen of their Galaxy Fold has begun to have serious problems.
The screen on my Galaxy Fold review unit is completely broken and unusable just two days in. Hard to know if this is widespread or not. pic.twitter.com/G0OHj3DQHw

PSA: There's a layer that appears to be a screen protector on the Galaxy Fold's display. It's NOT a screen protector. Do NOT remove it.
I got this far peeling it off before the display brushed and blacked out. Started over with a replacement. pic.twitter.com/ZhEG2Bqulr

Two of the first to see how their screens failed were Mark Gurman and Marques Bronwlee, who posted photos on Twitter of how the screens of their Galaxy Fold had been after a couple of days of use. In both cases it seems that the cause is the same: remove a plastic film that covers the screen, and that according to them everything indicated that it was the typical protector that all phones bring fresh out of the box. It seems that Samsung's instructions say it shouldn't be withdrawn, but if two tech experts have withdrawn it, imagine what "normal" consumers will do.

But lThe problems go beyond that protective film, because Steve Kovach has suffered similar problems on the screen without having removed that film. Other problems have also affected the screen of the Galaxy Fold that The Verge has in its possession for analysis. All this has happened with a use of only 48 hours, so the situation is likely to worsen when more time passes.
At the moment Samsung has not said anything about it, and is limiting itself to sending journalists and bloggers new units to replace the defective ones. It may be that all the units for review come from the same defective batch and it is not such a widespread failure As it may seem prori, but Samsung must be quite nervous considering that the official launch is on April 26 and that stocks are completely sold out after a pre-sale that was a real success. Time will tell if we are looking at something that can make the Galaxy Note 7 look like a joke.
