They ask Apple to return Pamplona to their Maps instead of Iruña

Recently Apple has decided to change the name of Pamplona to Iruña in its Maps and Weather applications, a decision that has not satisfied many Navarrese, which has led to a petition being launched in Citizen.Go for Apple to return to the previous denomination and Pamplona to return to being Pamplona in the iPhone, iPad and Mac applications.

Claiming that Spanish is the only official language in 100% of Navarre territory, and most Navarrese do not know Basque, the language from which Iruña comes, as well as possible political influence that may have contributed to Apple's decision, in less than 24 hours this request it has earned more than 1.000 signatures and is going viral on the internet.

Pamplona or Iruña, both names are official to know the capital of Navarra. Pamplona in Spanish, Iruña in Basque, are official according to the Provincial Decree of 2009 published by the Government of Navarra. But Few people from Navarra use Basque as their habitual language, less than 10% according to the petition requesting that Spanish be used again to name the capital Navarra:

Gentlemen of Apple:

I ask that, in Apple's weather application (meteorological) of iPhones, iMacs and iPads, PAMPLONA, the official name of the Navarran capital, appears again, which has been replaced -recently- by IRUÑA, its name in Basque. […]

Spanish is the only official language in the entire Navarrese territory. They speak it 100%. Euscaro (Euskera) or Batúa, speaks it in a habitual way less than 10%. […]

In short, I ask you, or rather, I demand that the location with the Apple applications that use GPS correspond to the legal and official name of PAMPLONA. This affects the vast majority of Navarrese and can create confusion and affect tourism. And it can have very serious legal and financial consequences.

If you want to read the complete petition, it is available at this link, and at the time of writing this article has already collected more than 1.200 signatures, less than 24 hours have elapsed of its publication.

The Basques could ask to put DONOSTIA, BILBO, GAZTEIZ ...

  4.   IRUÑA / PAMPLONA said

This percentage is false, half of the Navarr @ s understand Basque. And in IRUÑA the Spanish parties do not govern, the Basques govern… I would say that the best thing is to put the two official names, but asking that Iruña be removed is hate for a language… very serious in my opinion.

And asking that they remove Pamplona is not hatred of a language?

How difficult is it to respect minority languages? So difficult is it to be happy because an ancient language does not disappear? So much anger does it give you that Spanish is not unique, being hegemonic as it is? How much does it cost to respect the rest of the cultures of the peninsula?
