HiRise Wireless from Twelve South, the perfect 2-in-1 charger

Many of us thought that wireless charging technology was not going to give much of itself, but the manufacturers have convinced us of the opposite. Y Twelve South today gives us one more example of this with its new wireless charging base HiRise Wireless.

A base with a spectacular design for your desktop, and that can be used as a portable charger to carry it in any bag, suitcase or backpack. We have tested it and we will tell you our impressions below so you can see everything it can give of itself.

The best of vertical loaders

Vertical chargers have become the preferred choice of many users, especially since the launch of the iPhone X with its facial recognition system. Having the phone on its base, facing you, allows you to quickly view any notification you receive since Face ID automatically recognizes Your face. Twelve South knows this, hence the enormous success of its HiRise base in its different versions, and hence it has chosen this same system for this new wireless model.

However, this system has some disadvantages: it does not allow the AirPods to be recharged, and it is too bulky and uncomfortable to transport on your trips. So many users prefer horizontal loaders, lighter and compatible with AirPods.

The best of horizontal loaders

Here comes the great idea that they have had in Twelve South: a small twist to its charging plate and it is extracted from the HiRise base, allowing it to be used as a horizontal base that allows you to recharge your AirPods. This mini-base is very similar to conventional charging bases, with a very small and slim size, making it ideal to take on any trip. It also uses the USB-C connection, increasingly used in this type of accessories, so any cable of this type will work for it, and thus you will not have to carry more cables than necessary in your suitcase.

Fast loading and premium materials

But not only are we facing a great idea, but also the quality and design of the charger is what one expects from a premium product, like the ones Twelve South has used to. The base is finished in a beautiful chrome almost identical to the frame of my space gray iPhone XS Max. Where we support the iPhone we find soft skin, and a small projection will prevent the iPhone from sliding when placed vertically. The back of the charger includes the HiRise name and a small blue LED that indicates that it is charging.

The complete set is heavy (454 grams), so it will not move from your desk, however the "Power Disc" as Twelve South calls the mini-base that you can extract, weighs only 64 grams and its dimensions are very small (87x57x12mm) so you can even carry it in your pocket of the coat without hardly noticing it.

Regarding the internal specifications, a charging power of up to 10W must be added to the USB-C connection, so you can not only use Apple's fast charge (7,5W) but you can also take advantage of the most powerful charges compatible with models from other brands such as Samsung. Included in the box is a 1,5 meter USB-A to USB-C cable, which you can connect to any USB port on a computer or to a standard wall charger.

The inclusion of the USB-C connector is a success, and the quality of the materials is what you can expect from a brand like Twelve South, which never disappoints.
