The other day we were talking about the Twitterrific update 5, one of the most important unofficial clients. The use of these clients has spread among the most active users of the social network due to the fact that the development of new functions in the application itself is being neglected, in addition to presenting ads.
Twitter has announced that it will make changes to its APIs, development kits used by different third-party customers to design their applications. This Twitter move has put all customers in check who demand more information from the social network to know the impact of these changes that will begin to take place on June 19.
Doubts about the future of unofficial Twitter clients
During the last months we are seeing how Twitter is holding developers back to create applications that allow access to the timeline of the social network, the well-known unofficial clients. Some of these applications have millions of downloads like Twitterrific or Tweetbot, and Twitter's new policy could put them in check.
Streaming services on Twitter will be removed. This means two things for third-party apps:
- Push notifications will no longer arrive
- Timelines will not update automatically
This is the manifest created by a developer group urging senior Twitter officials to take clearer action on the future of the social network's APIs. As announced, the June 19 will disappear one of the most important development kits that are responsible for get the data automatically. This API will be replaced by another call Account activity. The problem, according to the developers, is that they have not obtained access to the tool nor do they know for sure how they will be able to port the current functionalities as of June 19.
We incredibly anxious for updating our applications. However, despite many requests for clarification and guidance, Twitter has not provided us with a way to recreate the lost functionality. We have been waiting for over a year.
