We can weigh objects using the 3D Touch of the iPhone 6s

When Apple introduced the iPhone 6s and told us about the technology Touch 3D, explained that they had chosen that name because there were three different possibilities of applying pressure. We were told that the 3D Touch screen is capable of distinguishing between a touch, a press and a deep press but, if we test an iPhone 6s, for example, by applying pressure on an icon compatible with quick actions, we can verify that the options window opens progressively, which shows that there are not three depths, if not many.

Developer Simon Gladman was one of the first to realize this and imagine an application with which to take advantage of it. What Gladman is developing is A scale that will allow us to weigh objects with our iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. It is clear that we should not rely too much on a device that is not made to weigh objects to weigh something serious, but it can get us out of trouble, in the same way that the sound level meters that are distributed by the App Store do.

Simon says (and I'm not playing games) that he asked for some weights to calibrate the application, so that if it is time to upload it to the App Store, the iPhone will translate the pressure exerted by the object to give us its "real" weight, although, as I said before, we should never give as reliable the results of a device that does not has created specifically for something.

As we can see in the previous video, the screen is quite sensitive and it would not be surprising if we see all kinds of applications that use the full potential of the 3D Touch in the future. What is less clear is whether Apple will allow developers to upload their applications to the App Store during the first year, but it is almost certain that it will allow it from September 2016.
