We tested Sandmarc's set of iPhone lenses, pushing our iPhone's camera to the limit

We will not tire of saying it, our iPhones have amazing cameras, cameras at the height of many cameras in use, but the truth is that smartphones have a plus: we carry them all day in our pockets. Versatility together with increasingly better cameras, means that we have in our hands some of the best cameras for our day to day. THE CAMERA for an average user who does not need high performance.

Today we bring you some of the accessories that every photography lover should have. And it is thanks to the fact that we have more and more powerful cameras in our iDevices, why not vitaminize that part of the camera from which many sin: the lenses thereof. But, in the absence of versatility in the lenses of the iDevices, there are many manufacturers that offer us lenses to superimpose on the cameras of our devices. Optics that we can get for less than 10 euros and that sometimes do not have all the quality that they should, with some exceptions. If we take into account a manufacturer like the one we bring you today, sandmarc, you will see how there are quality optics, or lenses, and the truth is that the results are quite good. Today we bring you the Sandmarc iPhone lens kit. We have tried it and after the jump we give you all our impressions ...

First of all tell you that all images that we have included in this post have been made with an iPhone 8 Plus, the photographs also have not suffered any edition (the photographs have also been taken from the same position putting and removing the lens in question), so what you see in the photograph is what you will get with the Sandmarc lenses. Lenses that a priori improve the camera of our device, but being an additional element between the "photographed world" and the sensor of the camera of our iPhone, subtract some of the light captured by it, something that inevitably translates into a loss of quality with the real image that we can capture without these lenses.

As we say, the guys from Sandmarc have provided us with the lens kit Photo Edition for iPhone 8 Plus, a kit consisting of three lenses: wide angle, fisheye, and macro for Apple device. The kit is basically composed of the three lenses separately in a packaging that we will find the lens itself, a housing for our device with the lens mount, a caliper that will save us using the Sandmarc casing (very useful if you don't want to get rid of your case), and a carrying bag so that the lens does not suffer any damage during transport. It must be said that being able to use mounting clip instead of housing is a plus, since you can use the lenses in the two cameras of your iPhone (and use it in your future iPhones), as long as we are on an iPhone 8 Plus or an iPhone X. I also have to say that the quality of the cases has not impressed and you will have to be careful as it is not a case with which to "protect" your device, it is only a case with which to mount the lenses.

Widelens, the wide angle for our iPhone

We start with the wide angle lens (Widelens by Sandmarc), without a doubt the lens that has surprised us the most because it is the most SUV. And we refer to this lens that way because it can be incorporated into our photographic day-to-day without any problem. A wide angle that brings us closer to a viewing angle of about 120 degreesAccording to the guys at Sandmarc, it doubles the native viewing angle of the iPhone. In the previous image you can see how the angle of view grows when taking a photograph from the same position with the wide angle on and without the wide angle.

And as you can see in the photographs we have taken, the results are really good. Of course, you have to try to be in the brightest possible environments to achieve the highest quality (improve the sharpness of the photographs). Unlike what we will see in the Fisheye (or fisheye), this wide angle (Widelens) barely warps the edges, something very common when we go over 100 degrees of vision, so you will be able to capture much more in your photograph quite realistically. Get ready because now you will be able to create impression panoramas, and portraits surrounded by a spectacular environment.

Fisheye, the fun of a fisheye on our iPhone

The fisheye is actually a wide angle lens, but unlike the previous one whose viewing angle was around 120 degrees, the Fisheye (or Fish Eye) Exceeds the angle of view to more than 180 degrees. An angle that will undoubtedly allow you to capture much more "world", and above all to exploit your creative side in photography by collecting a peculiar image with rounded limits.

Rounded edges that can always be corrected by trimming the ends of the image to straighten it, but I would dare to say that without a doubt what is interesting about an image photographed with a fisheye is precisely the effect that this type of lens creates. In this case, the result of the photographs has impressed me less, because it is an overlapping lens, it is noticeable loss of sharpness in the image, something that was not appreciable in the Widelens of which we have spoken before. It is a good lens, yes, but it is also true that it is much less versatile and it seems to me less like an external objective to carry it in my day to day.

Macro, capturing even the smallest detail

And we arrive at the most special objective of all, the least versatile of all due to the fact that it is to take specific photographs: the macro lens. A macro lens, and this obviously too, allows us capture any detail no matter how small. The macro lens comes with a protector that will serve as a limit to capture any object you want. It will allow you to reach a shorter focus distance than the iPhone itself, so you can capture plant details (as in the picture above), insects, or any little detail of life that you want. An expendable lens since unless you are lovers of this type of photography, you will get little benefit from it.

Where to buy Sandmarc lenses for iPhone?

As I have told you, we are facing a very interesting accessory for our iPhone. I, who am a photography lover, see these lenses, or any other of similar quality. Specifically this kit iPhone Photography Edition is priced at 162.55 euros, kit that, as we have said, includes the objectives: Widelens (76.99 euros separately), Fisheye (68.44 euros separately), as well as the Macro (59.88 euros separately). A kit that may seem expensive if we compare it with sets of lenses that are on the market for less than 10 euros, yes, we must bear in mind that in this case we have quality lenses, with glass instead of plastic like others, so the Sandmarc lenses are worth it.

If I had to choose I would opt for the wide angleUndoubtedly, it is the lens that you will get the most out of and therefore you will invest less money than if you made the whole kit first. Think that you want to photograph and invest in the camera of your iPhone.
