After the changes in Twitter, clients like Tweetbot no longer make sense

We already knew it for a long time -March approximately-, so it is not even a surprise, the only reality is that after the latest movements of Twitter regarding the way its features work in third-party clients, it no longer has It makes sense to pay for the applications and they force us to use their poor application. Many iOS users - among whom I am - had been using Tweetbot for a long time, an application that was neither cheap nor excessively functional, but still far exceeded the official version. Now considering the changes made by Twitter, it no longer makes sense to use third-party clients.

Obviously, the changes made to the Twitter API will cause the vast majority of third-party clients to disappear. This is how Tweetbot, the first major affected, has updated its application and It has reminded us of some of the functionalities that we are going to lose:

  • Loss of refreshment in real time via WiFi from our Timeline. It will be done every 1 or 2 minutes instead.
  • Push notifications disappear, they will be delayed for a few minutes in the case of RTs, "likes" and other notices.
  • The Activity and Status tab will disappear, as will the statistics.
  • The Apple Watch application disappears due to the problems derived from the changes.

Given the losses in the Tweetbot application -which are added to the lack of others such as surveys-, the most normal thing is that we will migrate to the official version of the application, where the publication of ads is excessive and constant, in addition to the fact that the Timeline is not sorted chronologically by default. We are going to have to consider which is the best method, but of course paying five euros for Tweetbot stops making sense from now on.
