Review of AirMail, a Premium email client

Airmail

After several years using iOS, there are still not many of us who have not found our perfect email client. The shortcomings of the native iOS client have led many developers to create the mail client that is capable of making everyone happy, and excellent applications such as Outlook or Spark have appeared, some that have fallen by the wayside, such as Mailbox and many other mediocre ones that don't even deserve to be mentioned. Is there still room for a mail client that costs € 4,99 in the App Store? AirMail thinks so, and it really lives up to expectations becoming one of the most complete email applications and with more customization options that you can find for your iPhone. Is it worth paying that money for it? That is what I want to help you decide with this article.

The minimum requirements covered

What should an email client have? Sure that each of us would include certain requirements that others would not even think of, but almost all of us would agree on the minimum that we must demand of any application worth mentioning, and even more so if it is also paid. One unified tray, push notifications, compatibility with common mail services including the ability to configure POP3 and IMAP and integration with storage services in the most important cloud. Some of us could even ask for more: compatibility with iOS 9 extensions, with smart search, 3D Touch and Apple Watch. So far we can say that AirMail complies with each and every one of the requirements set out, and that is something that not all mail clients, even those of payment, fulfill.

AirMail goes further than the rest

So far we haven't said anything about AirMail that other free clients like Outlook or Spark don't include. The bar is very high, because these two clients that I mention, despite being free, have a huge number of functions and configuration options that cover the needs of most users, even the most advanced. AirMail also includes a series of details that we can find in other clients, but none of them gathers them all. The unified inbox is really convenient, but there are few applications that allow you to differentiate the different accounts by colors, even by the logo that we have selected. At a glance you will be able to know which account each email is from, something that I at least consider very useful.

And let's not forget about design, because functions are important, but presenting your email with an attractive design also helps to visually discriminate more quickly what matters and what does not. The possibility of adding logos or photos to each email account, identifying senders with photos in the inbox And even being able to configure different colors for our mail labels helps a lot when you receive dozens of emails a day.

But let's not forget that the important thing about an email client is the email itself and the options offered by the application within it. Something that is really useful on many occasions is being able to click on the sender and show us the latest emails we have received of him, in addition to the possibility of configuring him as a VIP contact. Among the possibilities that AirMail offers us is to create a PDF file, send it to Spam (something that some clients incomprehensibly lack) or send it to other applications such as Fantastical, Deliveries or whatever is compatible with the extensions of iOS 9 through the share option. Of course there is no shortage of actions by means of gestures to archive or send to the trash, or to schedule the mail for later.

AirMail-Settings

Without a doubt, the strong point of AirMail is the configuration. Customization options go down to the smallest detail. Account setup is really fast and automatic. Even my IMAP account at work, which gives me so many headaches with the rest of the applications, configured it without problems. We have already mentioned the options to assign colors to each account or logos to identify them, but there is much more that you can configure.

It even has the ability to sync settings and accounts through iCloud, so that any other device you use the app on, including AirMail for OS X, has the same settings. Let's not forget about a very important detail for many: HTML signatures. You can use them without problems in AirMail, and also, thanks to the synchronization through iCloud, you configure them on one device and they appear on all the others. You can even create multiple signatures for each account and choose which signature to use in each email with a simple gesture.

The configuration options are not only in this, but We can even decide which buttons appear in the notifications of our Apple Watch: archive, spam, trash, mark as seen ... we can choose from many options, something that I personally have not seen in any other application. You can decide if you want the notifications to show you the content of the email or just the subject, you can even require using Touch ID to be able to carry out actions with notifications on the lock screen.

A "Pro" email client at a "Premium" price

I could be talking about AirMail settings for hours and it would surely keep leaving me unmentioned things. It is the most complete email client that you can find right now in the App Store, there is no doubt about that. If you are looking for an application that offers you everything that I have mentioned above, then do not hesitate, AirMail is your choice. Those who have not found their perfect email client because none of them meets everything they need, surely AirMail will be the closest thing to what they are looking for, but that comes at a price: € 4,99 the version for iOS, available only for iPhone. The version for OS X already exists, and gathers all the features mentioned in this version for iPhone, and costs another € 9,99. The iPad version is already in beta, and it will be another independent application for which you will also have to pay.

Are they worth what they cost? For those who really take advantage of all that AirMail has to offer, without a doubt. But for most mail users, there are free options that will meet your needs just as well or even better than AirMail.

Strongly agree, a lot of money compared to what other services offer at a lower price, or free.

also ... I have not been able to make an exchange account work. And from developer support I have gotten zero interest and no help. And I'm not a layman on the subject. But there was no way. € 5 in the trash.

Excellent program, worth the $ 4,99. I have configured my three email accounts, Outlook, Gmail and Exchange without any problem, the most complete. I have used the native application and outlook before but I definitely stick with this one.

Does anyone know if it has a read receipt, both on iPhone and when you send mail on the Mac?

It does not sync gmail folders. A KK of App. I prefer the native Apple a thousand times.

Try setting up the account again because it does sync Gmail folders

What of the buttons on the Apple Watch I can not find it?

    1.    Luis Padilla said

Within the application itself, in the notification settings.

Strongly agree for me it is the best mail manager, only two hits I do not know how to make it send confirmation of readings (if possible) and the other is that it does not let me search for mail for data that the attached files have.
Besides, it resizes the logos of the firms and that I would like to be able to remove it

Notifications are not working correctly. Basically no mail is notified to me. Before asking for a refund, I seek advice on whether there is something I am not doing correctly. In principle, both in the settings of the application and of which mail are active. Any suggestion?

Good morning, the signature in html works well for me the first email, the second the logos no longer appear. Can someone give me some kind of hint ???
Luis, has something similar happened to you?

Luis, I really appreciate the input, I just downloaded the application and it is really excellent. I was for a long time a blackberry fanatic and one of the things that cost me the most when I moved to Apple was the impossibility of integration between mail and calendar and tasks, and this application FINALLY brings this, thankful again.

The bad thing about this app is that it doesn't update well and you have to enter the app for the messages to load, so if the balloons are loaded and the number of messages come out, a problem if you don't notice the notification

    1.    jsbath said

Delete the accounts and put them back you will see how it is solved.
