After many months of waiting, yesterday the Cupertino-based company presented all the news that will arrive in September to all the devices that the company manufactures, although at the moment the developers already have in their hands the first betas with which to start adapting the applications to the new operating systems.
Although the one that has received the greatest number of new functions has been iOS 10, macOS, as the OS X operating system is now called, has also received important new features, including Siri and the Auto Unlock function that allows you to unlock the Mac using the Apple Watch.
What's new in macOS Sierra
Crab
After many months of speculation about the possible arrival of Siri to the Mac and with several years of delay, finally Apple's personal assistant has landed on macOS, formerly known as OS X. Siri will be available through a shortcut in the dock but apparently it will not always be activated as in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, at least in these first beta versions, but maybe Apple will save a surprise for launch day.
Thanks to Siri we can send text messages, locate files, search the internet for images, play our music list, inform us of the weather in a certain town, add appointments in the agenda, show photographs ... The interface is very similar to what Apple currently shows us on the iPhone.
Photos
The Photos application receives a new function called Memories, where it automatically albums related to our trips, dates, events will be created to which we can accompany with the music that we like the most. In addition, like the iOS 10 version, Photos has face recognition to be able to search separately for all photos related to a person.
Apple Pay
We can finally make use of Apple Pay payment technology through the web. When we want to make a payment through the internet, we can select the payment method Apple Pay and confirm it through our fingerprint with the iPhone, a quick and easy way to make payments over the internet.
Self Unlock
Finally Apple allows us unlock our Mac using our Apple Watch. As we approach the Mac (with bluetooth 4.x) it will detect our Apple Watch and load the information of the smartwatch user. A much faster way to get to work without having to enter the happy password.
Universal Clipboard
If we are reading an interesting article on our iPhone or iPad and we need to copy and paste a text into an article that we are writing on our Mac, we can do it, since the clipboard has become universal. All lor that we copy on our Mac we can see it on the iPhone / iPad and vice versa.
iCloud Drive
Through iCloud Drive it becomes more than just a different service to store our documents. With the arrival of macOS Sierra, both the desktop as our documents will also sync with iCloud Drive to be able to access them from any device.
Storage optimization
macOS Sierra will periodically inspect our hard drive looking for obsolete files, duplicates, caches, email attachments, photos, temporary files ... that we have been taking a long time without making use of them and it will allow us to obtain a significant amount of extra space on our hard drive.
Messages
The Cupertino-based company has given a twist to the messages by adding a large number of new features, such as rich photos and texts, emojis are displayed three times as large, preview of YouTube links ... All these functions as is logical are also available in iOS 10 and perhaps, during the presentation of the new iPhone, Apple could launch the Messages app on Android, now that it has received a large number of news to be able to compete from you to you with other messaging applications.
iTunes
The Apple Music section in iTunes, just like in iOS 10 has been completely redesigned to make it easier for all users to find and play their favorite music.
Tabs
Now it is much easier to visualize all the applications that we have open on our Mac, since they are shown in the same way as Safari, so it is much easier to access the application we want without having to search one by one.
PIP - Picture in Picture
The function that has become so popular on iOS and that until now we needed the Helium application, comes natively to macOS Sierra. With macOS Sierra we can enjoy the floating video window in any area of our desktop quickly and easily.
