Apple bought augmented reality company Camerai last year

With each new presentation of the iPad range, Apple shows us some of the functionalities it is working on to bring augmented reality to all its customers. However, it was not until the launch of the iPad Pro 2020 that seems to start to make sense thanks to the integration of the Lidar sensor.

To this, we have to add that the Cupertino-based company last year bought the Israeli company Camerai, a company founded in 2014 that has focused its work in the field of augmented reality, developing a technology that will be part of future augmented reality glasses in which Apple works but not exclusively.

According to the Calcalist media, the company was acquired by Apple for tens of millions of dollars in early 2019 and he joined the augmented reality team that Apple is working on. According to various anonymous sources related to the company, Apple had been behind that company for some time, a company that made the experience of software developers much easier when implementing augmented reality systems.

The platform created by Camerai allowed application and software developers to create augmented reality objects and render graphics no need for technical knowledge and writing code. This software included in the iOS and iPadOS camera allows developers to include augmented reality capabilities in any application.

According to this same medium, most of the Camerai team became part of Apple, to the R&D center that Apple currently has in Israel with more than 1.500 employees. The purchase of this company is in addition to the one made a few months ago NextVR, for which Apple paid more than $ 100 million.
