Apple sentenced to pay $ 625 million to VirnetX

Apple facetime

A little over a week ago we informed you of the demand that Apple had received in which accused him of infringing a series of patents of the VirnetX company, which supposedly those used for the FaceTime calling service in addition to the Messages application. This lawsuit is long overdue, since the first filed by the company against Apple dates from 2012, which was finally dismissed by the judge, arguing that evidence was missing, for which he asked the plaintiff to gather more evidence and file the corresponding lawsuit again. .

The VirnetX guys again gathered more information about the infringement of this patent and went back to court to file a lawsuit against Apple, but this time, the amount had risen to 300 million dollars, requesting 532 million dollars (from the 216 that they requested in 2012) for the use of patents without going through the box. Finally the jury has found the plaintiff right but instead of finding Apple guilty and forcing them to pay 532 million dollars, the jury has made its calculations and finally Apple will have to pay 625 million, almost 100 million more than what the plaintiff requested.

Apple says it will appeal the judge's decision. Attorneys for the Cupertino-based company claim that they are very surprised and disappointed by the jury's decision, especially when according to your information, the patents referred to in this lawsuit had been declared invalid, regardless of whether VirnetX has developed that technology in recent years, but what counts here are the patents.

According to the VirnetX law firm, this verdict corroborates that Apple has been using a technology which had been developed and patented by VirnetX for the entire time they have been using it.
