Apple Developer Academy in South Korea to open in 2022

Apple Developer Academy South Korea

The Cupertino-based company has announced that the South Korean Apple Developer Academy and R&D Support Center will open in 2022 at Pohang University of Science and Technology, in North Gyeongsang Province. Apple announced the creation of this academy as part of the company's agreement to end a antitrust investigation with the country's Fair Trade Commission.

The antitrust investigation began when the country's phone companies claimed that Apple was forcing them to pay the costs of warranty services and advertising on television, a practice Apple uses in most countries.

This new academy, similar to the one Apple opened a few years ago in Italy, will offer free training for Korean residents aged 19 and over in 9-month courses. The company will open the application period in the coming months.

Apple claims that the academy was created to help entrepreneurs, developers, and designers to find and create jobs within the iOS app ecosystem. Only in South Korea, according to the figures that Apple manages, thanks to the App Store more than 300.000 jobs have been created.

As part of the same announcement, Apple is also providing thousands of iPads to schools and low-income families of all country. Additionally, the Everyone Can Code and Everyone Can Create educational programs will be available in Korean beginning in 2022, with free resources available to educators.

The company also claims that the center will support cutting-edge training and will assist production using the latest smart and eco-friendly technologies available today.
