The rumors of the Apple Watch Series 7 went far beyond what it really has been. In the first months, many filters pointed to the integration of a greater number of biomedical sensors, including a technology to measure blood pressure. Nevertheless, none of that has been like that. If it is true that Apple continues to work on design technologies to measure blood pressure without the need for external elements, although that process is slow. What we do know is Apple's new patent shows a system capable of measuring blood pressure using a bracelet or external item that suggests an Apple Watch strap.
The patent includes a multi-sensor bracelet compatible with an Apple Watch strap
The new patent published by the US Patent and Trademark Office a few hours ago is named "Stretchable Blood Pressure Cuff" by four Apple engineers. The patent itself shows what a device created would look like. to measure blood pressure in the form of an extendable cuff. In the argumentation of the publication we see how periodic measurements of blood pressure are sometimes necessary throughout the day and that it would be necessary to leave the band in place to avoid putting it on and taking it off repeatedly.
That is why Apple opts for an extensible system that would be left in place and work autonomously. The system by which it expands and contracts is based on a fluid inside an internal chamber where it connects with another chamber transmitting the flow to it, all this housed in a warehouse. These chambers can exchange fluid with the reservoir and would make it possible to increase or decrease the length of the band, and adjust to the limb of the user.
In addition, not only do we talk about blood pressure but this band could carry pressure, hearing, heat, position, optical sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers or other biomedical sensors. These sensors would have different types of technologies such as capacitive, ultrasonic, optical or thermal detection.
The bottom line of all this is that Apple continues to work on health-related technologies. In addition, although it may seem like a device outside the line of work of the big apple, it is true that the band suggests an Apple Watch strap. Perhaps its ultimate goal is to integrate all this technology into a strap that allows us, on specific occasions, to measure blood pressure. Until they develop a system capable of measuring it without the need for external pressures against the user's own blood vessels.
