Another year, the Cupertino-based guys have once again dominated device sales and therefore the number of activations during the biggest Christmas shopping period.  Many tech companies pin their hopes on this period to be able to offer good figures before the end of the year. For some time now, technological devices, whether smartphones, tablets, consoles ... are the most valued by users when it comes to making a gift during this period of compulsive shopping.

The firm Flurry Insights has just published a study in which we can see how Apple has once again led the sales and activations of devices in the United States and Canada, with 49,1% of activations, two points less than in the same period last year, in which it reached 51,3% of them. For its part, the Korean firm Samsung, has risen to 19,8% of activations, two points more than last year, in which it was left with 17,7% of the total activations of this Christmas period. It seems that the two points that Apple has lost have been recovered by Samsung.

Much lower in the rankings, we find Nokia, with 2%, LG with 1,7% and Xiaomi with 1,5%. It is strange not to find in that classification the Japanese firm Sony, which in recent years is betting very strongly on the American market, launching very acceptable devices at a fairly competitive price.

This year has been the phablet revolution, which as we have said many times, are cannibalizing the market for smaller tablets like the iPad Mini. Tablet sales, in general, are down two points from last year, while the phablet market has doubled, rising from 13% last year to 27% this year.
