Apple Maps starts showing speedcam information in new countries

Apple Maps was launched as the Apple-branded competitor to Google Maps for navigation alongside our mobile devices. Although it did not come with all the functionality that users wanted or expected, Apple has been updating it with new functions that have been making it a little more complete every day (although it is still quite far from Google Maps). According to new information from the Netherlands, Apple would already be showing information from existing radars in the Netherlands.

According to the Dutch technological medium iCulture, Apple Maps would already be showing information during navigation of the location of speed cameras on Dutch roads, which suggests that Apple would launch this functionality in more countries in the near future.

While we navigate through one of the areas where the functionality has already been deployed, either with the iPhone directly or through CarPlay with Apple Maps, the existence of a radar is reported with a yellow icon with a camera inside at the point of the road where it is located (As we can see in the header image of the article).

Today, Apple only shows information about speed cameras in Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States, but this report suggests that it could be very close to its launch in the Netherlands and, of course, in other European countries. For now, they have only been notified in the Haarlem region, in the north of the Netherlands, so it may take time to roll out the functionality throughout the country.

Undoubtedly a functionality with a long journey and that, since Google Maps already integrated it in its day when buying Waze, has always had a lot of controversy. With this information, the user can be aware of when to reduce speed in case of exceeding the limits, which could become a danger to traffic if used incorrectly.

Hopefully Apple will launch this and more features in the rest of the countries, because it still has a long way to go to surpass Google Maps as the best browser on our iPhones.
