Apple and Nokia reach an agreement for the use of patents that had them at odds

Five months ago Nokia sued Apple, accusing her of making use of different patents registered by the Finnish company without having previously gone through the box. The lawsuit could be a serious blow to the coffers of Cupertino, since since 2011 they had tried to reach an agreement that never satisfied both parties. Throughout these five months, Apple has withdrawn all the products of the Withings company (now in the hands of Nokia) from its physical and online stores, in addition to having accused the company of acting as a patent troll.

As we can read in the press section of Apple's website, Nokia and Apple have reached an agreement to abandon the legal battle that faced them due to disputes over the intellectual property of patents that the Cupertino-based company had used in recent years. According to María Varsellona, Nokia's director of legal affairs, “This is a significant agreement for both parties. We changed our position from being adversaries in court to being business partners to work together for the benefit of our clients. "

As announced, in this collaboration agreement Nokia will provide the network infrastructure products and services for Apple. In addition, Apple will resume the relationship with digital health products known as Withings both in physical and online stores and through Apple's HomeKit platform. Both companies are exploring a future collaboration related to digital health, to ensure that the relationship works effectively to the benefit of both parties to their clients. The financial agreements they have reached are confidential, but Nokia will receive a cash payment in advance and during the term of the contract, the duration of which has not been determined.
