Without a doubt, new technologies continue to surprise us every day. I just read a patent that Apple has gotten very curious. Is a system to channel the possible entry of water that can be entered through the vents of an iPhone or Apple Watch.
That's when my fuss comes. I watch my Apple Watch and I see that it has two slits on the left side (speakers) and a small hole (microphone) on the right. And according to Apple it is submersible 50 meters. If this evacuation system has just been patented… What system will be being used now? I hope an effective one ... well, let's trust the Cupertino engineers ...
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has just granted a new patent to Apple titled "Smart vents for electronic devices«, Where the company explains a new system to ventilate the interior of small waterproof devices such as an iPhone or Apple Watch.
It is a system with protections against water entrance in the air ducts that cool the device inside. It contains a sensor that detects the entry of water, and a closure system that prevents the passage of moisture into the device.
The way to block the passage of water could be done in different ways. It might be because vibration, to expel the microdroplets of water to the outside, or by vaporization, by ultrasound or an infrared heater.
This patent was filed by Apple engineers David MacNeil, Roberto M. Ribeiro, and William S. Lee. The most logical thing is that if the company decides to implement this type of solution in any of its devices, they would be those that are waterproof, such as Apple Watch and iPhone.
If in the end this patent becomes a reality and the iPhone Lightning connector ends up disappearing, we could see a future model submersible 50 meters, like the Apple Watch. why not?
