Apple receives a new complaint for planned obsolescence

IPhone battery

The problem of the decrease in performance in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s (including their Plus versions) continues to be today, a problem for Apple's image from which it has not yet recovered and that also, still costing you money. The latest complaint he has received comes from Italy, specifically from the Italian Consumers Association.

This association requests a compensation of 60 million euros for Italian consumers who were "deceived" by Apple's practice of reduce iPhone performance whose battery was not going through its best moments, specifically in the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models.

According to Els Bruggeman, head of Euroconsumers:

When consumers buy iPhones from Apple, they expect sustainable quality products. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the iPhone 6 series. Not only were consumers disappointed, faced with frustration and financial damage, but also totally irresponsible from an environmental point of view.

This new demand is the last front in our fight against planned obsolescence in Europe. Our request is simple: American consumers received compensation, European consumers want to be treated with the same fairness and respect.

It should be remembered that the European consumer organization, Euroconsumers, filed a similar complaint a few months ago in Spain and Belgium. But according to what they say, the one they have just presented in Italy, it won't be the last.

Battery problems go back to the release of iOS 10.2.1, a version that included a function that automatically reduced the performance of iPhones when the battery had to be replaced. The problem is that Apple did not report this new functionality and when the scandal was uncovered, it acknowledged that it had not proceeded correctly and created a battery replacement program.

In 2018, Italy fined Apple 10 million euros for "dishonest business practices" for this update which "caused serious malfunctions reducing performance and thus speeding up the replacement of phones."
